Just don’t try to use the LaCie ethernet NAS as a server. We tried that for a small setup of 3D rendering and found that a lot of our work ended up rendering without the designated material maps, since the drives were too slow to keep up…

You could install your own copy of FCP on the designers machine. You will not be able to use both copies at once (if on same network) but at least Apple makes it a lot easier to change computer than Adobe…

There is a great uprez filter as a Boris Continuum unit:

Wondering if the preview options for Color now works with HD?

Sure do it all the time – create fancy background elements from the particles in Motion, export with alpha, and do the main composite in AE, which I have worked with since v2.
I would Love to do more work in Motion, but I just don’t trust it after several crash episodes and corrupted project files. Also I need to be able to copy and paste keyframes!

Shouldn’t be a problem if you were to use GigE to access storage.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody, and Marc thanks for the offer. I will give you a call in a week.
My requirements are 2 streams of ProResHQ, so 1Gbit Ethernet seems like the way to go. I have been warned that SAN systems require quite some IT skills and maintenance, which is likely to overwork me in the long run. My reseller has come up with a quote for an Apacesystems V2100 which is supposed to support my requirements, and the price is about $10000. Anybody have experience with this unit?
Also the new iMac looks like a cheap solution for a new editing system, but don’t know if it supports Jumboframes?

As a newcomer to RED workflow I can say it is quite a different ballgame.
FCP can slowly import as different ProRes flavors through Log & Capture, but max. at 2K and not the best debayering available. There are quite a lot of free applications on REDs site for primary grading and converting the footage in better quality, but beware that it is a slow process.
I have chosen to import in proxy format into FCP and getting an edit done before converting RED footage in high quality, but still haven’t found a final solution for doing the “on-line”.
