We’re unable to rename the clips inside the log and transfer software. We’re using the latest download, v.2.7 on the Mac. We’re also using the PDW-U1 drives, which apparently don’t allow you to write to the disk at all. If we connect the camera to FCP, I’m able to rename the disk, but we cannot change any clip names. Are we doing something wrong? I suppose if we rename the clips on the disk and then import them, then if we need to reload them in the future the media will easily reconnect. It’s just that we’re unable to rename the clips. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your suggestions. What I liked about batch capture using tape is that FCP only captures the media it needs to fill the timeline. You don’t have to recapture the other 20 minutes of the interview. However, I can live with bringing all the media back if that’s what we have to do.
I think the other issue that we’re dealing with is that we cannot rename the clips in the log and transfer software. (We’re using the latest- v. 2.7 on the Mac) We’re using the PDW-U1 drives to read the media, and they apparently won’t write to the disk. If I try to load from the camera, (F355 camera), I can name the disk but I cannot rename any of the clips. We search the clips inside of our Macs, so we don’t want to work with clips named “C0065”. Are we doing something wrong when we try to rename the clips in the log and transfer software?

If I understand you, you’re suggesting that I either have to reimport my media from the XDCam disks and reconnect, or store the original media on another hard drive. One reason we went with XDCam is because we plan on archiving the disks, so I don’t think we’ll put the media on another hard drive.

Let’s hope so. We found a newsletter somewhere else that says we might not get the firmware until October.

24 hours after I called Apple, the new card was here. I’ve swapped it out, and everything looks good so far.

I just got off the phone with Apple support. They’re sending me a new card right away, version 2. From the research I’ve done, apparently the first MacPro’s went out with the version 1 X1900 cards. You can identify them by finding a serial number on them that goes 00004, or something like that. The fan on these cards does not ramp up and down, so they tend to overheat. The replacement cards should work fine. By the way, I’ve already had to replace the fan on this card once before.
If you call Apple support, they should be aware of the issue. If they don’t, refer to Knowledge Base article #305637.
I’ll post again if I have any trouble with the replacement card.

Yes. I tried that last week. I’ve been running the computer with the side panel removed, and it seems to help. However, at some point while I’m editing, everything will freeze up. All I can do is restart with the power button.

Thanks. That’s what I thought. I’m looking forward to all of the new options that I’ll have!

Thanks for your help. I’ve already adjusted the audio using the left and right faders. I guess my problem is that After Effects appears to be mixing both of my channels when it imports the Quicktime movies. I have discrete audio channels outside of AE, but both channels appear mixed in After Effects. Am I importing my quicktimes incorrectly?
