You can do what you just did and explain that this is a “user” issue… and that many users never experience this…
As for it being an FCP issue, we’re arguing semantics… what we do agree on is that it isn’t a P2 issue…

Barry, if you’re going to make statements like this I think you really need to provide more detail. You know I respect your opinion and know you don’t make statements wildly, but for those with lesser experience this can be misinterpreted, and I don’t think it’s fair to FCP or the legions of FCP users that don’t experience these problems. I’m not saying FCP is perfect but I use it every day and shoot P2 every week and don’t seem to be encountering these issues on any of my four FCP systems…

No I didn’t. Apple made a huge mistake and certified someone in my market with no video experience and someone who does not even work in video production (two of the requirements). He is an OS X and networking specialist. Apple has admitted it’s mistake and has plugged the loophole that let him in, and they were trying to figure out how to de-certify him, but have not as of yet. Several of our most experienced instructors did not re-certify. Right now he is the only one certified for FCP 6, but no one wants to hire his graduates. No one else has bothered out of protest. Apple really screwed the pooch on this one…

And if detail was the only factor, I guess that would make sense. Unfortunately there are a lot of other things to consider… things where the Sony doesn’t fare as well…

The EX is still a long GOP format isn’t it Noah? If so, I don’t see it as the equivalent of an I-frame based HD format like the HVX…

You know, now I’m not so sure. There is a page:

that refers under the Mac section to a P2 Store/Card Busdriver/ IEEE1394B Download. It goes on to mention something about the Duel Adapter, which I don’t quite grasp…
I did locate some Mac P2 Store software, but it won’t work on Intel macs so I can’t try it. I’ll need to get on a G5 and see if it allows the update or just the diagnostics. As you know the Panasonic website (while improving) can be difficult to navigate and locate things. The official software download still says Windows only…

Great. So, can you please thank the Japanese for me personally… for making this update only available for the PC. It remains a mystery to me why the do not support the largest share of HVX200 owners.
I have no way of installing this update. I guess Barry was right, the P2 store’s future was short… he was referring to cards exceeding it’s limit, but for me the end appears to be coming even sooner…

I mean, everything *should* be better, as it’s (again) 45% more expensive. And I’m not saying it’s not worth it to the right buyer. But there’s some compromise and downside in every comparison.
“You’re absolutely right Barry. I realized after the last post that I had hoped that I hadn’t given the wrong idea that I felt the EX-1 was better. What I want are those features I mentioned earlier on my HVX200! To be fair I’ve vocalized that from day one… and again recently with the folks from Panasonic.
I am not a fan of long GOP and am definitely an I-frame proponent. The HVX is still a better choice IMO, but they now have some competition on the media and on the feature set…
