16GB & P2 Store?
Posted by Mitch Ives on September 13, 2007 at 10:53 pmAnyone have the P2 Store reading the 16gb cards? I can’t seem to get it to work… the error light lights the minute I try to start the offloading process…

It needs to have the software upgrade. Available on the same site as the HVX upgrade.
Best,

September 14, 2007 at 2:54 pmGreat. So, can you please thank the Japanese for me personally… for making this update only available for the PC. It remains a mystery to me why the do not support the largest share of HVX200 owners.
I have no way of installing this update. I guess Barry was right, the P2 store’s future was short… he was referring to cards exceeding it’s limit, but for me the end appears to be coming even sooner…

September 14, 2007 at 2:55 pmAnd it *has* to be done from Windows; there’s no way to upgrade a P2 Store from the Mac platform. Unless I’m wrong.

According to the website, you’re not wrong…

You know, now I’m not so sure. There is a page:
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/pcdriver_e.htm
that refers under the Mac section to a P2 Store/Card Busdriver/ IEEE1394B Download. It goes on to mention something about the Duel Adapter, which I don’t quite grasp…
I did locate some Mac P2 Store software, but it won’t work on Intel macs so I can’t try it. I’ll need to get on a G5 and see if it allows the update or just the diagnostics. As you know the Panasonic website (while improving) can be difficult to navigate and locate things. The official software download still says Windows only…

September 14, 2007 at 3:17 pmThere’s a P2 Store driver for the Mac, but I don’t know that that allows you to upgrade the firmware of the P2 Store. From what I understand, you upgrade the P2 Store itself by using the P2 Store Manager software, and I think (and am not 100% sure about this) that only the Windows version of the P2 Store Manager has the necessary functions to transfer firmware to a P2 Store.

September 15, 2007 at 10:19 amHi Guys,
I do believe that it is a PC only upgrade. Sorry, if I could change it I would. The only option here is to find a friend that has a PC, or go to the library and use their PC. Or you can call our service center in LA and ask them to do it.
Best,
Jan

September 16, 2007 at 1:59 amI upgraded mine successfully on a non-intel G5 Powermac. I wish I could recall the details of what I downloaded but it did work. You should check all the downloads available. You will need to flip the switch under the little rubber cover on the left side I believe of the P2 store.
Good luck

September 17, 2007 at 2:57 pmTo upgrade the P2store you need the P2store Manager installed on your MAC. I believe there is a version for non-Intel MAC on the P2 support desk. However for IntelMAC’s you have to wait until the Autumn 2007.

I have spent more time trying to navigate the relevant sites to update firmware, and more time trying to figure out what the hell the proper procedure is for doing so, all because your website sucks. The grammer is utterly confusing, too. How is it that a multi-billion company can’t hire web people to make their “support” side support instead of frustrate and confuse? It’s really weakness to an otherwise great product.
