Here’s the deal. AVCcam is the new version of AVCHD that supports the 21mb rate. AVCHD is either a 9mb or 13 mb format. AVCcam uses the same compression rate, but that format is brand new, like two weeks ago, so you need to give Apple time to get a codec for the 21mb version. Relax, I’m sure you’ll have it soon…

Gee, Walter are you suggesting that Adobe isn’t committed to the Mac? Whatever gave you that idea… Encore that doesn’t work… CS4 with no 64bit support? (sarcasm intentional)
Let’s see, we’ve had 64bit machines for years that actually work, while Windows only recently got them and most don’t work. Yep, makes sense to put 64bit on Windows. As for their excuse, it’s pathetic. They should have started writing in Cocoa in 2003 like everyone else, and not make excuses that things suddenly changed in 2007. The real topper is them treating us like we’re stupid and saying that the lack of 64bit support on the Mac won’t be an issue… yeah right… any more than a defective Encore and $1,200 updates aren’t a problem… and don’t get me started on their draconian registration system that can leave you hanging as a deadline approaches!
This is why we stopped using AE years ago, we no longer develop our website on Adobe products, and we’re looking at alternatives to Photoshop. I’m not having my business be dependent on any company that shows such disdain for the Mac market…

It does something else fun too. It reset the output in a “saved” FCP project from 59.94 to 23.98, so initially I couldn’t get any output to the HD monitors. That was new…
There are also some new settings in the Control Panel under “Setup”. And, for the first time, I can turn on Desktop Display without losing my output. That’s nice… now I just have to see if it actually works with this nVidia display card…

No, I saw this too. I can’t seem to determine what the “factor” is because there doesn’t seem to be any consistency in how may or what kind will want to be rendered. A series of mine with green screen required re-rendering, but not all of them… odd.

Actually they don’t. You might want to read the Kona forum. Lots of threads with problems on K3’s, LH’s etc. In fact, It’s a bit unscientific, but I’ll have to look again… I don’t recall seeing anybody post that they didn’t have an issue.
I have not installed it on any machines yet. I’m waiting for 6.1. Frankly, given that all of these issues were already here on the COW, I was a bit surprised to see it released at IBC with so much fanfare…

I not only disagree, but I think that statement is utterly ridiculous. We found them the first time out, and have seen them virtually every time we’ve used the camera. I suppose if it sits on a tripod, and you don’t move it much, you may not see them, but I wouldn’t call that real world use. And I certainly wouldn’t accept being forced to shoot interlaced as the solution.
First, they show up every time there is a strobe. We can actually see the effect on the external HD monitors. And no, this isn’t just a problem for wedding videographers. For us, the strobes on a police car in one shot made the footage problematic. Shooting music videos was another.
In moving cars or helicopters you can get the famous “swimming video” look. Nice… totally unusable footage.
Hand-held and too much movement can also introduce artifacts.
I’m not suggesting that people shouldn’t buy these cameras, but hey, let’s not lie to ourselves either.
Try the P2 forum… there are also some threads over there comparing the cameras…
