Yes David, and that was what forced Apple to contact people and get them to walk it back. Tweeters have been forced to clarify it, as Philip Hodgetts also weighed in confirming it. Matrox has been under pressure to announce when they will have drivers for the MX02. They have announced it is not possible. Here’s the gist of it:
Matrox made there announcement this morning and categorically stated that there is no way to get video out…
“FCP X does not support professional video monitoring. For full-screen, preview-quality output you can use the second DisplayPort output from your computer in Full Screen Mode”
Peter Wiggins who was also at the meeting clarified that he did not hear anyone say that pro video output was coming. And the original poster has posted several corrections on Twitter after being contacted by Apple.
This is why I say it’s good to keep getting more clarifications about what the truth really is. It’s a shame we have to pull teeth to get the truth… why can’t Apple just address all the areas that they know are serious?

Thank you. This notion that desktop Display will be fine for C.C. or any kind of monitoring is untrue. This IMO is the real deal killer. Multicam will come. XML/OMF is here kinda and will come. Opening old projects that have said is never coming… but not being able to monitor will keep a lot of people away. It really is a deal breaker…
Like you, I’ve made a second career out of fixing other peoples screwups… brought on mostly by the notion that your computer screen is all you need…

According to the release by Matrox and followed up by Phil Hodgetts, we are NOT going to get any output, as it isn’t possible in FCPX.

All the more reason why the revelation that FCPX doesn’t have any “real” video out is so disappointing… would allow a lot of people to start using FCPX that have chosen not to…

Precisely, and a point that everyone seems to be discounting. It isn’t about losing a few sales to pros and making it up with more sales to “moving picture cutters”. It’s about the influence that those pros have over all the other sales… it’s about the perceived loss of Apple image… it’s about the trend, i.e. the MobileMe disaster, the iPhone antenna disaster, and now this. I mean when you make the late night shows as a joke, I’d say you’ve moved into the mainstream bad news category. My sister works in engineering and even she called me to ask what the hell is going on with Apple. They were about to buy thousands of iPhones and iPads. Now they’re holding off… it didn’t help that the IT guys explained that they also bailed on the enterprise stuff. Oops!
Time will tell. I’m not happy about this thing called FCPX, but I’m not pissed at Apple either. Do I think FCPX will be great some day. Maybe? The problem is that FCP7 was already too long in the tooth… many of us can’t give them another year or two… we feel like we already gave them the last two years waiting for what turned out to be FCPX.
