  • Targa is 8-bit codec. TIFF can be 16-bit.

[Bob Zelin] “my dream is that Apple gets sick of the pro apps division, and sells the entire thing to Adobe. Then Adobe trashes Premier, and puts FCP in the Adobe Production Suite (cross platform). “

Avid bought Liquid. See what was trashed.

In FCP Browser edit Reel field for one clip. Select all clips and right-click Reel field. It won’t help you with reconnecting to EDL though. FcpReconnect from VideoToolshed is probably your best bet.

WRAW stands for “Windows RAW”. It is RGB uncompressed codec. Millions+ is 8 bit per R,G and B plus 8 bit for alpha channel. Export “None, Millions”. It should work but QT AVI export module is ancient so it’s probably better to go via MPEG Streamclip. “None” shows in Streamclip settings as “Apple BMP”.

[grinner hester] “A bad edit is simply an edit without intention.”

Cuts in boat scenes in “Jaws” are full of intention. Intention to frighten. But the editing is bad because what the audience is scared of isn’t a shark but Quint. Of course here it is probably directing that’s bad, not the editing.

[joel lee] “I came here looking for the answer to the same question. Hoping to find a possible solution instead getting heated about why some found it so wrong that we were having a problem… jeez”

There is a solution right in this thread. Fast, precise and efficient.

[joel lee] “But I do the “lock track” method, but lately they’re big projects and it takes many clicks, then the clicks to undo the locks, etc… “

“Big projects” and “click” or “drag” don’t go together. Big project in FCP means keyboard.

April 1, 2009 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Autoselect woes

[Jiri Fiala] “For example, I would expect that if I want to select an edit point of, say, A3 and A4, I would turn off autoselect for A1 and A2, then press V to select the edit point.”

    That’s how it works.

[Jiri Fiala] “But no, it still selects edit point on A1 and A2.”

You have autoselect on V1 and Linked Selection turned on.

First thing to ask your production is what are they recording to. The more likely options are HDCAM-SR, as mentioned, and s.two DDR. In both cases you will need a matching player. The player for s.two d-mags is s.two iDock. It has HD-SDI output and RS-422 control. It does decent real time debayering so you don’t bother yourself with RAW. iDock also has an Ethernet connection so you can copy data an FCP compatible XML from the d-mag to your edit station. In RAW and 4:4:4 RGB modes it is 8 MB per frame so get plenty of storage.

The only thing that let an ancient piece of code that is FCP to drag along so far is the interface. It makes sense. They just need to get reed of whatever inconsistent behavior there is.
