It did. FCP was bought by Apple to spite Avid which said around that time that Mac is dead and they are not going to develop anything for this platform any more. It happened FCP interface made more sense for people than the rest of the NLE apps. It was simply less confusing. And QuickTime despite all the crap people say about it was the solid foundation that let FCP to drag about for ten years.

Surprise! Final Cut Studio 3 has the same sort of DPX support because Compressor can render to DPX.

I remember 1999. By v.1.25 FCP was a real thing.

Real FCP did not defaulted to either insert or overwrite. You, an editor, decided that for each clip you put on the timeline the moment you were putting it on the timeline. This is The Right Thing. Setting Insert or Overwrite as a mode before you start to cut is the wrong thing, no matter which of them is default. Yes, they’re modal in almost every NLE but it is stupid anyway.

It’s irrlevant. AJA VTR Xchange is completely different application and has nothing to do with FCPX.

You don’t understand what you’re talking about. AJA beta is simply an extended desktop. Two color space conversions, unknown quality deinterlacer and scaler. Totally useless.

BS. Average joe-schmoe has been working in FCP without external monitor since version one. FCPX lack of external monitor support doesn’t give him anything he didn’t have before. But it takes a lot from me.

The point is there was an interface for third-party hardware built-in right int FCP 1. There is none in FCPX. Read AJA documents about their beta drivers.
