It’s been a while and maybe 2 1/2 versions later, but I think in 2010 my issue ended up being solved by reinstalling the program. There was an update that I was unable to install after repeated attempts, but uninstalling and reinstalling the program eventually allowed me to access and install the update.
Not sure what version of premiere you’re using, but try and make sure you’re working on the latest update for your version.

I’ll try to help….
What format are you trying to capture in, DV or HDV? Have you changed any settings recently?
For DV, the settings that work consistently for me are:
VCR HDV/DV: auto
Component: 1080i/480i
i.Link Conv: onFor HDV:
VCR HDV/DV: HDV
Component: 1080i/480i
i.Link Conv: OffHope that helps!

Just tried it…… no change.
My machine hates me.

Jon, thanks for getting back to me again. I tried your suggestion to no avail. Here’s a screenshot so you can see what I’m looking at:
copy:
note the track selected for the paste… I then “cntl-V” and this is what happens:
No clue, NO CLUE what’s happening!!! Maybe I should reinstall the program? I mean, it’s not a HUGE deal, but it’s somehow really frustrating!

I understand how it’s supposed to work, which is why I’m having issues… let me try to say it again:
Pretend I have 5 video tracks. I want to copy a lower third graphic from V2 to V5. If I select V5 and paste, the graphic is pasted wherever the timeline marker is, but it remains on V2.
I’ll take this a step further even…. if I deselect all tracks, none are lit up, it stil pastes to V2. If I copy from another project that has, god forbid, 11 tracks, and my current sequence has 2 tracks, it will add additional tracks so it can paste on the 11th track.
Selection is irrelevant. Is there a setting in preferences that I’m overlooking? Should I post screenshots?

figures that i would find the solution after making a post, isn’t that the way it always works?
i had all the settings correct, except that i.link conversion was set to “on”. everything seems to be working fine now.
thanks for reading, hope this post helps someone else!

i kept getting an error trying the Avid Meridien codec, so no go there. however everything showed up fine using the quicktime animation codec…so that’s what i’ll use from now on.
thanks so much for your help in solving this issue.

thanks for the help, however it’s still not working correctly.
i didn’t know about the million+ option. here’s the rundown:
format: quicktime movie
format options: Avid Packed Codec
channels: RGB+Alpha
depth: millions+
color: premultiplied (matted)then in avid i’ve tried just about every setting i can think of…..
the avid help menu says that i need to import using the 601/709 color level.
with the alpha options, i’ve tried “use existing,” “invert existing,” and for the hell of it “ignore” with no luck.i eventually used a workaround by creating a solid color background on the after effects timeline, then in avid i ignored the alpha channel and created a matte key in order to maintain the effect properties.
clearly i’m missing a step somewhere, and although i have the workaround i’d like it to work the way it’s supposed to.
any other suggestions? thanks again for trying.

i’ve had a similar issue happen recently. i would press play and the picture would be there, i’d press play again to reveiw the edit and the picture would disappear, i could never tell when it was going to work. this happened mostly when there were multiple pictures in a sequence, usually in excess of 6 or 7.
what seems to have worked for me, though it may have been coincidence, is deleting the reference files in your “OMFI MediaFiles” folder; the two files ending in “.pmr” and “.mdb”
good luck to you, let me know how it turns out.
