Try a System Restore to the day before you installed the MS encoder. THis might fix Premiere, but will break the encoder.

Download GSpot…it is free app to analyze codecs and such. Open one of your files in it and reply to this by copy/paste the info in Container and Codec into the reply.

try updating Windows Media Player to v11. -
2.0 is a bit simpler for making DVDs as 3.0 will require you to learn a bit about Encore which is included. I dont think you can get 2.0 any longer.
Elements is better if you are editing already compressed video and it is quite simple. -
Well sort of;
Open a new empty sequence and then drag the sequence icon for your pics from the project window into the new sequence and right click on it and choose Duration/Speed.
As I do tons of pics to DVD, I find ProShow Producer a lot easier to work with. -

Premiere Pro will import and play many formats of video if the video will play in Media Player…exceptions include Xvid and AVCHD.

Most stand alone DVD recorders wont recognize firewire from a PC, only camcorders.

Yes, Pro wont handle Xvid, Elements will. There are hundreds of apps for converting one file to another type. VirtualDub is free and very powerful, but not easy to use. Converting already compressed video to another type for editing and then again for export will reduce the quality noticeably.

Stick with “Safe colors” in PS (16-235 RGB) and avoid thin horizontal lines.
