Pro wont capture with this device and also wont edit Mpeg video captured with it either.

Did you apply any effects to the video? Is there a “needs rendered” red line above the clips at the top of the timeline? What are your projects settings? What are the properties of your source video?

I have a non-demo version…One one Project setting…NTSC.

If both editors are on a network, Windows wont allow both to have the same project open at the same time.You would have to schedule each editor on a different shift.
Duplicating the project file wont work…how can you merge the 2 versions? You could have each editor export his/her sequences as Mpeg files for DVD or DV .avi. -
Elements has only one project setting…DV and depending on the version, PAL OR NTSC, however one can export in either format. I dont have any PAL footage to test, but suspect like Pro, converting footage will be less than satisfactory.

The piece of the puzzle you are missing (mentally and maybe physically) is a DVD authoring application like Encore or one dozens. You probably have one on the CD that came with your DVD burner…unless your missing that 2.
DVD authoring app will import your elementary streams and write the files that standalone DVD players recognize.Premiere Pro can bypass all this and write the files and burn the DVD, if you choose File>Export>Export to DVD. Though you wont get menus or many other options.

Windows Media Video 9 is one of the best/efficient. Try 1.5 mbps at full resolution and frame rate.

Assuming generic OHCI firewire setup…camera must be in VTR mode to have device control. Also possible are bad firewire cable/card or port on the camera (I have 2 cams with bad firewire ports).

I am beginning to suspect artifacts are on the DV tape, caused either by a dirty playback head or recording drum. Try recapturing just a small amount first. They may not be exactly the same the second time.
