Does Premiere Elements edit both PAL and NTSC?
Posted by Luis Ortega on June 10, 2005 at 8:13 pmI noticed on the Adobe website that the tryout download for Premiere Elements comes in PAL and NTSC versions.
What are the limitations of Premiere Elements in handling both PAL and NTSC video?
When you purchase the software, is it limited to editing only either PAL or NTSC video footage?
Thanks a lot for any advice.Mike Velte replied 20 years, 11 months ago 4 Members · 6 Replies -

June 10, 2005 at 11:02 pmSince, Adobe is technically offering Elements as NTSC and PAL versions, I think it wouldn’t be possible to import PAL footage into an NTSC project or vice-versa.

June 11, 2005 at 11:29 amElements has only one project setting…DV and depending on the version, PAL OR NTSC, however one can export in either format. I dont have any PAL footage to test, but suspect like Pro, converting footage will be less than satisfactory.

June 11, 2005 at 2:05 pmThere is no limitation on editing either Pal or NTSC with the same program (i.e. there is only one program which does both). It is not intended for format conversion between the two and mixing formats in one project also does not work.
So… edit NTSC footage in an NTSC project and Pal in a Pal project. If you need to convert the finished edit to another format, use tools intended for that like Canopus Procoder or similar (Google or Yahoo will show you some more solutions)

June 11, 2005 at 2:11 pmApologies, I assumed Elements is like PPro – just saw on Adobe.com there are distinct seperate try-out versions for NTSC and Pal – forgive my iignorance and the post above!
Wonder why though?

June 11, 2005 at 10:44 pmYes, indeed, why have two try-out versions?
And what happens if you try to import PAL or NTSC dv footage in your purchased software?
Nothing fancy, no conversion, just each format in its own project like you can do in Premiere Pro.
Can anyone please advise whether Premiere Elements can handle either PAL or NTSC formats or must one buy specific versions for each?
Thanks a lot.
