Have you tried capturing as HDV into a HDV project setting preset? The bigger FX-1 capturing just fine on most PCs.

3.6 MBps is the combined (audio+video) bitrate for Digital Video. Windows Explorer only display the audio bitrate which is 1536 Kbps for 48 Hz PCM audio.
Regarding cpmpression settings for the Adobe Media Encoder…what is your target? DVD…local playback…web???

When editing movies for a TV audience, forget about Premiere’s program window…use your TV. What you see in the program window is normal when viewing fields on a progressive scan monitor.

Why export as DV.avi from Premiere when you can export as Mpeg 2 for DVd authoring?

15 Mbps is very high for any SD output. What is the purpose of this video output?

What kind of firewire port…PCI or Onboard the motherboard?
I suspect the Raid controller config. Can your controller be IDE and SATA? which is it? -
Microsft AVI is an architectute that supports many codecs including “none” (that is the default you are experiencing).
DV.AVI refers to the DirectShow architecture of which there are 2 codecs, but Premiere only support one (type2). This is what you want.
You cant capture as anything but DV.AVI using Premiere and a firewire input.

One general rule is to choose the deinterlace option in the Adobe Media Encoder if your audience will only be watching on a PC monitor or other Progressive scan display (which does not support fields). Some folks choose to deinterlace Mpeg2 for DVDs watched on a TV but I dont like the motion that produces.

Both Encore and Premiere use the same encoder. If there is significant difference then the Presets are probably different…one CBR and the other VBR 2 pass which will take twice as long.

I have seen similar issues with Premiere and burners, even when the burner is recognized, the burn often crashes. I export from Pro as Mpeg2 for DVD and then author in Encore…no time lost.
