Premiere is probably cropping because;
The image is larger than your Project settings. You can adjust the size by selecting the still in the timeline and clicking “Motion” in the Effects Control palette. Then you can resize the image by click/drag in the Program window. -
Open a COPY (not original) of your CS2 projects in CS3. Be prepared to jump back to CS2.

Windows XP, Premiere Pro and Intel/AMD have all collaborated over the years to make editing DV easy on a PC. Editing Highly compressed or small resolution source material will be problematic. Go with the flow.

This may disable WMP 11, but if it fixed your burner problem, then you will know who the culprit is. You can always reinstall wmp 11.
Maybe it is the order of installations. Try reinstalling Premiere after installing wmp 11.
I have 11 on one PC and Premiere 2 sees my burner. -
The problem is that your image is not 4:3 aspect ratio like your project and does not fit without changing the scale and then will have black bars top and bottom..
Open the image in Photoshop, constrain the crop tool to 4 x 3 and crop your still for Premiere. -
Try a “System Restore” to just before the last time it worked.

Select the clip in the timeline. Open the Effects Controls palette and twiddle open Motion. Deselect Uniform Scale. Now you can adjust either horiz or vert.

Export the PowerPoint as jpegs (File>Save as). Select jpeg as the format.
Import into Premiere and scale to about 85%. -

Choppy Playback is typically a hard drive issue. Tell us about your hardware setup.
