If you had a trial or beta version of any CS3 product installed previously and it expired, Premiere wont install.
Even a “paid for” full version will not install without some serious cleanup work.
The clean up involves installing “msicuu2.exe” from MS and running “winCS3clean.exe” from Adobe.

Video compression is about compromise…when you throw out 90% of the data, something has to give. With 100% quality, you choose to place all emphasis on sharp images and none on smooth motion.

In the upper left corner of the Export Settings window is the “Output” tab. Select it and choose “Deinterlace”. This will cause some loss of image quality, but should improve the horizontal line thingy.

Normally 2 pass variable bitrate can improve motion smoothness, but with the bitrate already at the top of the codec’s efficiency curve, the improvement might be minimal…but hey, try it. Set Minimum bitrate to 1500 kbps, Target at 2500 kbps, and maximum at 3500 kbps.

A big part of the learning curve is experimentation.

1024 kbps is just a preset (suggestion). Customize that to 2.5 mBps (bitrate). Any higher than that and not much improvement.

Did you choose Sony and PD150 in Device Control options? If not did that help?
Will another camera and/or tape capture?

If no to both… well my first thought was Premiere 7 and Vista?? I cant believe it installed AND launched.

I dont think the maximum bit depth option relates to DV editing mode at all. I did test preview file rendering with this option on and no difference with it off.
First of all, this option involves preview files only and the quality of preview files for codecs that support various bit depths. DV does not offer this option.
You can create custom project settings using a different Editing Mode like Desktop and Format other than DV and then note that some Compressors offer various bit depths for previews.

That might be why both keys are not in CS3. Of course AE can do.

Twiddle open (expand) the audio track. There is a tiny button at the left end of the track. When your mouse hovers over it, “Show keyframes” is displayed. Click the button and choose “Show Clip Volume”.

The trial version lacks the Main Concept Mpeg encoding/decoding facilities which require Adobe to pay a license fee.

Technically speaking, compressed files like jpegs cannot be edited, only replaced with a .psd or …copy.jpeg. When you choose “Edit Original” in Premiere, the still opens in PS, make your changes and choose “save” and default format is PSD. If you choose Jpeg as the format and drop the changed file into the same folder, PS will append “Copy” in the file name.

Tiffs, BMPs and PSD are editable.
