  • Multiply and Screen keys not working in PPro 2?

    Hi all,

When I apply Multiply or Screen key to a track I can’t seem to see any effect on the final output… no matter how I adjust the opacity or cutoff parameters. I have applied the similar effect on Premiere 6.5 and it works as expected (darken/whiten the video track below with the video from the keyed track.) I have tried to use a clean OS install and a clean PPro 2 but the problem is the same. BTW, all other keying effects work with no problem.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? I am not sure what goes wrong here. My HW and SW spec are as follows:

AMD Opteron 170 Dual Core, 2 GB RAM
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    nVidia 6600GT, ForceWare 93.71
    Premiere Pro v2.0 (T316-11/17/2005) (copied from Help/About)

    Thanks for your help!

    Paul

That might be why both keys are not in CS3. Of course AE can do.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can use AE to do that (I have AE 7), but for a simple editing I prefer to stay in PPro as much as possible (I don’t have production bundle/dynamic link so interacting between PPro and AE means rendering.)

I got a tip from a friend to get this working to some degree: creating a sequence to contain only the “masking” track, then applying the multiply/screen effect to this sequence within a master sequence which contains the underlying video. With this way I can see the multiply/screen effect on the master sequence. However, the effect parameters (opacity and cutoff) are essentially useless – any touch on them will disable the effect completely.

Unless someone has a better answer, I think these two effects are somehow broken in PPro 2. I am surprised that I did not see many complaints on this (maybe everyone assumes AE for this type of work and never use these effects in PPro.)
