    when we’re talking about format…
I’ve now tried to render out ProRes 422… and compared side by side to h264 with relatively high settings.

And couldn’t see any difference at all.. the h264 seemed to look even better in terms of sharpness.

But I know that people are talking about ProRes 422 being superior in quality compared to h264.

thanks so much guys for the quick responses…

I tried all of your suggestions and they all come in handy – also managed to solve the issue.
And will know what to do next time when something similar happens ☺

Was actually a third party plugin causing the issue..

Peter, how would I go about rendering in software mode ? Never heard of that actually… and google didn’t return much either.

    Cheers.

I did transcode to proxies.. this time I tried to ProRes 422.. again, the playback is smooth but color correction is lagging.

Impossible that a 1080 ProRes422 file at 1/8 of resolution is doing this..

Also, where does the pre-rendering from in to out point come in useful ? When anytime you make a change it gets reset..

    thanks for the info guys.

I meant the output files… with Final Cut you don’t have so much control over the settings, but the same edit rendered out as h264 in Final Cut and Premiere was at least a 150 mb larger from Final Cut.

I am sure it’s using a bit higher VBR frame rate by default or something.. but it’s still a disadvantage.

    thanks.

Ye, I am working still on the same machine (Macbook Pro 15 Retina mid 2012).

Maybe it’s also due to the fact, that don’t have the most recent version of Final Cut ?

Also a second difference I’ve noticed, which was quite surprising.. the default ‘Computer’ h264 output from FPCX produces very large file sizes.. compared to reasonable render settings in Premiere.

unfortunately, the video wasn’t shot by me.. I was doing just the editing.

I was actually looking into buying a steady cam for moving shots.. not crazy expensive and pretty good results from what I’ve seen.

ok, so now I realised where the issue (probably) was..

There were a few frames where the face was out of focus.. normally, it was almost unnoticeable but with the stabilisation activated it was way worse..

opening up this old topic… would love to achieve exactly the same effect.

I am sure there is an easier way than to do it manually..

    Any ideas guys ?

Just trying to find a way to export a sequence (video+audio) with losless audio.

I think I got now what I was looking for… didn’t realize quicktime is also quite decent.
