That’s what I was wanting to know. That would explain why there isn’t any discussion about that online. I thought it seemed to good to be true. Thank you Rafael.

What canon dslr models do have “a clean HDMI output” that would work with this recorder?

My camera budget for this next project is 12K or under…though preferrably under. I would never rent. My last film I bought a Sony EX3, shot the movie then ebayed the camera 2 months later for only about 1K less than what I bought it for. That’s what I plan to do again.

I suppose part of my indecisiveness is that I’m unable to try out a camera before I commit to buying one (no funds right now to rent even for a day). So I’m trying to figure out what’ll work best for me based solely on internet word-of-mouth. I already follow Philip Bloom’s blog btw. He’s the guy that convinced me to buy a EX3!

    Questions:
I understand that the moire problem with DSLR’s shows up when shooting things such as roof shingles and the like. I plan to shoot a lot in the forest. Will all the leaves and such give me grief should I shoot with a DSLR?

I understand that the Panasonic af 100 doesn’t have focus assist. Is this true? My production will be a one man show and I’ll be running the camera myself. After using the EX3’s amazing focus assist…I think I’d be lost without it. How is it focusing with the Panasonic?

I appreciate the replies! Here’s a scene from my first movie if you care to see–https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPmHhHCWjgg

I was referring to hack filmware as Michael pointed out. Apparently the 7D is the only model which won’t accept them.

    Thanks for the replies.

It did shoot it on a Sony camera also. I might just look into it. Thanks!

Thanks for the info John. Here’s another crazy thought/question for you: Has Sony ever “sponsored” a filmmaker? With my first feature film I recently became a semi-finalist in the largest film festival in the nation (for my genre). The final judging will be in a month but I’m already receiving emails from national distributors asking to see the film. The fact that I’m a proud Vegas user…do you think Sony would have any interest in a sponsorship of any kind? I’m looking for free software/etc in exchange for promoting Vegas. It’s just a thought. Any advice? Thanks!

Thanks Mike. I’m using Vertatim. What is considered a “slow speed”?

Thanks for the reply! I have no interest in being an editor for others and I don’t plan to have clients of any sort. I’m producing and editing feature length films only…so I guess my question is as you said, “is Vegas good enough?”. I just have nothing to compare Vegas to so that’s why I’m asking for opinions. Am I using a boy’s toy to do a man’s job? Thanks for your opinion! Any others care to add??

Yes! Thank you John! I didn’t know I could “stitch” my rendered MPEG-2’s together like that. I assumed doing that would re-render everything and reduce the quality. This is exactly the solution I’ve been looking for! Of course after having read all the other replies I will definitely upgrade my system so that I don’t have this problem next time. You’re a life saver. Hopefully my computer will stitch them without freezing up!
