Search for Dean Velez tutorials. He’s done some really cool stuff with only Cycore & AE effects.

Yes it will… and its freaking FAST. But load up on RAM. They recommend 2GB per processor, but we have 2 Octo’s with 8GB (1GB/processor) and they’re performing very well with the AE8 Free Preview.

I’d find a large image of gilding or metal texture online (istockphoto.com perhaps) and matte it into the desired area. You could even take a digital photo of aluminium foil and colorize it in AE. Maybe put a subtle grunge texture on top to rough it up a bit.

Yes definitely get the playback specs from someone at the billboard company. Each LED manufacturer has their own specs & playback methods. Also check if there are any limitations on motion in the piece. If the billboard is on a highway, sometimes there are state, city or county regulations regarding that.

Andrew Kramer did a tutorial a while back that explained proxies. Search the tutorial section.

It helps to render touchy projects as an image sequence. That way if it crashes you still have all of the frames up to the point of the crash and can continue from there. Also if you have any other free machines on your network set up a network render.

Have you tried creating proxies? Might help some. Also turn off motion blur & any slow effects you have until you have animated all of the camera moves.
