The answer is “it depends”. I’m not sure about Movie Studio but in Vegas Pro, we got the ability to add individual FX to an audio event with the introduction of Pro 10. To see if you have this capability, right click an audio event and see if “Audio Event FX” is one of the options. If it is, select it and choose the one you want. If it isn’t there, then your idea of dropping it onto a new track is the best way to go.

Drop it on your timeline, right click the event, choose Properties, change the Playback Rate to 0.4 (60/24), click OK and stretch the event out until you see the V at the top of the event.

Thanks Wayne. As much as I’d like to claim to be a guru when it comes to things like this, the reality is that I got the info from one of the many Vegas forums I’m on. If I could remember who it was that originally posted this, I’d happily give them credit.
BTW, here are two more lines to add to the above post. Once again, the author is unknown.
DC High Pass Filter On (this operates at <=3Hz and takes DC bias out of the mix);
Bandwidth Low Pass Filter On (this takes aliasing noise at >20kHz out of the encode). -
While you’re in Pan/Crop, right click on the image, select “Match Output Aspect”, resize as desired and then everything will work as expected.

My guess is that you have QuickTime player set to auto update or you installed a new version of iTunes. NEVER let Apple update anything as it’s a well known fact that it breaks things, even in the Mac world 🙁
If I am correct, uninstall the current version and install an older one. I have 7.7.1 on my home (XP) and office (Windows7) machines and it works perfectly. -
