  • John, all I did was grab and drop the “Cookie Cutter – Yellow Glowing Portrait” FX from the Video FX tab onto the upper track.
    The dialog box that popped up is shown in the images below (one for Pro 10 and one for Pro 12) along with a screen grab of the FX.
    The positioning box automatically shows up in Pro 10.
    In Pro 11 and 12 you have to click the arrow next to the word Center to get the box to open up.

  • I don’t what to tell you because I just tried this in Pro 10 and 12 and it worked as expected.
    Since that doesn’t seem to be working for you, here’s another technique to try.
    Put a text media event above the image, select a capital O and size, position and colour it as desired.
    You can drop a light Gaussian blur on it if you want to.

    Gilles, I’m the first one to admit that I don;t understand DialNorm or any of the other DVD settings either.
    Having said that, here’s a tip I grabbed a long time ago for people who complained that their DVDs sounded much quieter played back on a TV than they did in the edit suite.

    Encode set to AC3;
    Click on custom tab;
    On the first tab set Dialog normalization to “-31”;
    On the last tab marked Preprocessing;
    Set the Line Mode & RF mode profiles to “None”;
    Now save this as a preset.

    Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I got swamped at work and at home.
    I just tried a test render on my work computer (also an i3) and a 7 min. file (audio plus a still image) took 18 minutes to render a 7 minute segment so your time is definitely in the ballpark.
    The only way to speed it up is to use a different template or get a machine with an i7 processor.
    Out of curiosity, why are you using the template that you’re using?
    In my opinion, 1920×1080 is overkill for your needs.

  • Gilles, I always have it turned on too but every once in a while Vegas has a hissy fit and messes things up 🙁
    Have a great Christmas holiday!!

  • Hello Gilles. I hope you’re doing well these days.

    To add to what Roger said, make sure Quantize to Frames is enabled and that the events start and stop on a frame boundary. To see if this is the case with your events, zoom in on the event, place the cursor at the beginning or end of the event and use the left or right arrow to go forward or back one frame. If it doesn’t end up where its supposed to (i.e. the cursor isn’t where it’s supposed to be), trim the event so that things are back to normal and your problem should be solved.

    I’m guessing from your original post that this is a video file which means that you’re making Vegas work at it as mp4 can be processor intensive.
    What version of Vegas and what mp4 template are you using (i.e. video frame size and bitrate)?

    What format are you rendering to?
    What’s your CPU?

    Glad I could help Randy.
    Yes, it’s a known issue but it doesn’t happen every time which makes it that much more frustrating.

    Sounds to me like DVDA is up to it’s old tricks of playing dumb 🙁
    This has been an issue since I started using the program.
    Ignore the warning and odds are that things will proceed as expected.
