    Hi,

I made a sports highlight with SV a few months ago using a method I read online, but I can’t seem to replicate how I did it.

    Here’s what I’ve done.

I have the video and audio track from my clip. At a particular juncture, I did “save snapshot to file”. Then I hit “s” to cut the clip apart. I inserted the PNG snapshot into the video track and shortened it from 5 seconds to 2 for the “pause”. I then made a new track above the video file, and copied and pasted the PNG file to this new track.

On my PNG file on top in the new video track, I selected, “Event FX” and chose “Sony Cookie Cutter” and then “Yellow Glowing Portrait”. The problem I’m having is that I don’t see the Yellow Circle as I did in the past, nor the other pop-up window that allows me to move/resize the circle on the PNG file.

Any help out there would be great. I realize there are probably less clunky methods to doing what I’m trying to do, but this worked for me in the past. I would love to know what I’m doing wrong (as well as any solution that is easier/faster than what I’m doing).

    Thank you in advance.

Addendum. After selecting the Event FX, I can see the Yellow Circle, but I can’t seem to resize or move it around.

I’m sure there is something simple I’m missing. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

    Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks for any help one can provide.

I don’t what to tell you because I just tried this in Pro 10 and 12 and it worked as expected.
Since that doesn’t seem to be working for you, here’s another technique to try.
Put a text media event above the image, select a capital O and size, position and colour it as desired.
You can drop a light Gaussian blur on it if you want to.

    Thanks for the reply, Mike.

I think there is a setting that I am omitting (maybe above the preview video screen).

When you set up the FX to Yellow Highlight, does a dialog box then pop up that allows you to move the circle around? If not, how do you get to the circle to manipulate the locations and/or size?

    Thanks.

John, all I did was grab and drop the “Cookie Cutter – Yellow Glowing Portrait” FX from the Video FX tab onto the upper track.
The dialog box that popped up is shown in the images below (one for Pro 10 and one for Pro 12) along with a screen grab of the FX.
The positioning box automatically shows up in Pro 10.
In Pro 11 and 12 you have to click the arrow next to the word Center to get the box to open up.

    Mike,

Thanks. I think I have 12. For some reason, I thought a different dialog box popped up to allow manipulation of the object (a circle in this case). When I get home, I will try clicking on the arrow next to “Center”.

Regardless, I don’t see the circle in the preview window. Are there any settings above the preview window that need to be toggled to allow viewing of the circle?

John, the Preview window shouldn’t affect your ability to see the FX.
Having said that, it is possible that you inadvertently clicked on a setting that would cause this not to show.
Do me a favour and apply a completely different effect (e.g. 100% black and white) to the event, see if it displays as expected and report your findings.

    Mike,

I hit the arrow on the “Center” feature, and now can see the ability to drag the object (and see it dragged around in my preview window). But regardless if I do the yellow circle preset or any other object preset, I do not see the selected object being moved around on my screen. Instead, all I see is a crosshair on the preview screen, exactly like the crosshair that can be moved around in the “Center” window.

I’ve see the yellow circle intermittently when I’ve tried other things, but don’t see it now. I’m sure there is something simple I’m missing.

Is it related to the track “above” that I placed the duplicate screenshot? Is it somehow not on “top” and therefore not showing the object? I simply selected “Insert Video Track”. Does it matter that the track is “purple” – the same color as the video track below it?

Can you or anyone else figure out what I’m doing wrong? Thanks.
