Try changing the extension to *.mpg instead of *.mpeg. The extra e may mess things up.

The biggest problem has always been that Sony is very slow at releasing updated drivers for new burners. As Edward said, most of us (myself included) use DVDA to “prepare” the files but another app (RecordNow for me) to do the actual burning.

Are you sure you weren’t using Track Motion? I don’t see how Pan/Crop can do this.

I called canon and asked about the pass through feature. They said that none of their cameras have that feature.

As you’ve already discovered, the person you spoke to at Canon never bothered to read the manual as, according to p. 88 of the manual, your camera does indeed have this feature.

    1. Connect the camcorder to the VCR.
    2. Prepare the device.
    3. Turn the camcorder

I want to basically get something that might pass through a second render once edited to give a decent finished product.

No worries with Vegas on this issue whatsoever. The encoder is recognized as being one of (if not the) best around.

Ah, Divx. Now I see where you’re getting the 2-pass option.
I do question the use of this codec though for projects that, to quote you ” are really important to me, so I want to get it right.”
If they’re that important, I’d strongly recommend forgetting about Divx and sticking with what Vegas likes – DV-AVI. Staying with this format gives you a lot more editing flexibility and, IMO, less headaches down the road.

The two-pass option is available only if you select an mpeg-2 render. Otherwise, it’s single pass.

  • 6.0b is an upgrade in the sense that it has numerous bug fixes. Other than that, it’s a standalone installation. Even if you already had 6.0a installed, 6.0b would detect this and ask you if you wanted to update the old version.

No problem at all Heidi. Don’t try to open a Vegas 6 file in a previous version though. It won’t work.
