Unfortunately Masking isn’t an option in any version of Movie Studio.
I’m using Pro 12 and am happy with it. Having said that I know several pro 13 users who like that version. The choice is yours.

Ctrl + shift + I is the keyboard shortcut.
This is in Vegas Pro so I’m not sure if you have it in Movie Studio. It’s worth a try 🙂

1. Enable Auto Ripple. The online Help menu gives you several options depending on what you want to ripple.

Applying a post-edit ripples automatically
Select the Auto Ripple button (or press Ctrl+L).

Click the down arrow next to the Auto Ripple button and choose a ripple type.

Affected Tracks
Ripples only the tracks where you performed the edit.

Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions
Ripples events, keyframes, and envelopes on tracks where you performed the edit. This command also ripples the following:

Jackie, I’m glad to hear that you solved your problem. Pass through is the same as using a Canopus so you get a DV AVI file identical to your source footage.

Another option is to buy a used mini dv camcorder that has the pass through feature. The tape transport doesn’t need to be working as long as the electronics do. Hook your VHS deck to the analog inputs and firewire out to Vegas.

I do this all the time with stills that need to be cropped before being added to my timeline.
Crop the images to the desired sizes in Photoshop or your program of choice. If you don’t have one, grab IrfanView (it’s free) as it has a crop feature built into it.
Save the cropped images with a new name so that you don’t do anything to the original image.
Once this is done, add them to the timeline and apply Pan/Crop as desired.

In that case I have some questions for you.
It looks like the image was scanned.
What kind of scanner were you using?
How big was the image you were scanning?
What dpi setting did you use?
Was the original high gloss or more like a newspaper?
Better scanners have an option for different paper types. Does yours have this and, if yes, what option did you use?
