Save it as a veg file giving it whatever name you want to. As long as you don’t delete any of the original files, it’ll open up the same way when you are ready to render.

That’s called the “expanded edit mode”.
To exit expanded edit mode and return to the previous window layout; perform any of the following actions:
* Choose Edit > Select > Exit Expanded Edit Mode.
* Press 5 on the numeric keypad.
* Double-click the event edge.
* Press Esc. -
I forgot to mention that doing the above only sets your project properties to match your source video.
If you want to render to that format, you need to customize a render setting template to match. -
Make sure your Project Properties match your source video.
Newer versions of Vegas Pro give you the option to do this automatically.
If you have an older version, load in a file and drop it on the timeline.
Go File > Properties. The Video tab is the first one to come up. At the far right of the word Template is the “Match Media Settings” icon. Click on it and browse to a folder containing your source footage. Click on any one of them and then click Open. Your Project Properties will now match your source footage.
I highly recommend saving this as a preset. You can give it a unique name so that you know what it is immediately for future use.
If you want all your projects to open up with this setting, click the box at the bottom of the Video tab that says “Start all new projects with these settings” and then click Apply and OK.
Once you do this, all new projects will start up with this as your project settings. -

No it won’t. They all have to be grouped together to make them move as one.
BTW, Post-Edit Ripple is the search term to use in the Vegas online help menu. There are three different methods used by Vegas (Affected Tracks, Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions or All Tracks, Markers, and Regions)and, if you’re going to use it, you need to know what each one does or doesn’t do.

Vegas Pro got the multicam option back in version 8.0 and has it to this day.
From what I’ve read, Movie Studio doesn’t have this option but you can do a pseudo version of it by using Track Motion to shrink individual tracks and use markers to define where you want to cut from camera to camera.
I don’t use any other NLE so I’ll let others offer their opinions on them. -
If you adjusted your monitor font size larger than 100%, set back to normal size.

Ross, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I use the MXF HD EX 1920×1080-60i template and it only has a VBR option.
If you use the MXF HD422 1920×1080-60i 50 Mbps template then you get CBR but at a higher bitrate.
Some folks use the XAVC option but that results in an even larger file size.
The first MXF option has always worked just fine for me so I stick to it.
Try a few different renders and see which one you like best. The final choice is yours. -
Odds are that Vegas has no idea what codec was used to create the AVI file.
My guess is that it’s Divx or Xvid but you need to find out for sure.
Use MediaInfo (it’s a free download) to find out what codec was used and report back here with your results.NEVER install a codec pack (such as Klite) as that has been known to severely mess up Vegas by replacing known good codecs with inferior ones.
