There are many different strategies for choosing colors that work well with each other. The Adobe Illustrator color guide palette actually uses many of the methods I used prior to the palette, and can actually take you into some never untravelled territory, so I suggest you investigate the Color Guide.

You can actually do this VERY quickly in Adobe After Effects using the clone stamp. It has been awhile since I did this, but worked great over a series of frames, even if the dust moves over time.

If there are fonts you want to use that do not have an opentype option, you can purchase crossfont. Works great on every font I tried. There are a few annoying steps involved to convert, so I convert my whole library at once.

The type shifts when you outline the text. We have to fix the positioning prior to outlining the fonts.

In the paragraph menu flyout menu, choose justification. Most likely the freehand values imported into here are different. Illustrator justification does not work perfectly when you use values different than the standard:

    Word: 80%, 100%, 133%
    Letter: 0%, 0%, 0%
    Glyph: 100%, 100%, 100%

Negative values especially drive Illustrator justifcation out of whack.

Do some of your fonts looks blocky or staircased as they get larger? Then you do not have the printer matching font.

If your fonts are acting strange and the tracking goes totally out of whack do a find for all the .lst files on your computer, and delete them.

jpg is a lossy format, and a small change like that is part of how the file format works. Try saving as .psd and your color values should remain the same.

If you still have CS3 on your machine go tot edit >> color settings and save your settings. In CS4 go to edit >> color settings and LOAD the settings you saved.

In the brushes palette turn off all the checkmarks, and try to use your brushes. My guess is you have scattering or something similar enabled.

April 28, 2009 at 1:51 pm in reply to: how to keep the clarity when reducing an image?

There really is not a way to have the same clarity in a lo res image as in your high res image, it is a matter of pixel physics.

In a 10″ 300 dpi image, you have 3000 pixels to represent your image. If you go down to 1″ you only have 300 pixels to represent the same image.

You can try to cheat this by adding some extra sharpening, or duplicate your layer set the top layer to mode hard light, and then turn the opacity of the layer down sp you don’t over sharpen (you may need to lighten or darken your image depending on if the starting pixels were high or low key).
