interesting, on the current project, it asks me for the loacation of 10 audio files, all of which are in the same directory. Normally it looks in the same directory for other needed files before asking again.

I always dub the DVD via S-Video to DV using a regular set-top player, and place the original DVD on a shelf or in a drawer. People don’t seem to understand why we can’t just open the DVD and start editing, but we can’t and shouldn’t.
If a DVD is at a high enough data rate, the DV dub will be more or less ok.I have a lot of people send me DVD, recorded on the fly in surgery, and often there are lots of motion artifacts, which just fall apart no matter what you do.
There is also a operating room video system which records MPEG-1 to DVD. So then I am sent “DVD” but have to explain to the client how crappy the video is going to look.Good luck.

When I was working for about 2 months out of school, duping tapes mainly, I was asked to re-edit a complicated video after the original editor quit.
Trial by fire taught me the technology.Then we hired a producer with broadcast background. For 3 years he did a paper edit on everything, then sat with me calling each cut – that taught me everything I needed to move on without him.
But like the others have said, I learn something new everyday.
Recently read “When the Shooting Stops…The Cutting Begins” by Ralph Rosenbaum. Fascinating look at film editing as a storytelling art. Regardless of technology you have to be able to take hours of material and make something out of it, something I do daily now.Mike

Hey Matt, I hear ya.
We have an open floor plan, I’m up in a loft, so if one person is not using headphones, everyone hears what he’s doing. Not perfect, but otherwise the setup is ok. Everything within arm’s reach.I gotta get a nice curvy desk, however. 2 CRT monitors, laptop, 2 keyboards and two mouses on a rectangular desk is awkward.

search the posts, there is something further down about a free program which will generate a movie with your custom timecode, which you can key over your program.

that’s interesting – even though the problem remains in rendered audio files, it can still be caused by the onboard audio? weird.

thanks. yes it seems like it is computer specific, based upon the multitude of posts in the matrox forum. we have a hardware specialist here, so I’ll leave it in his hands if we do get this.

wow – the linear edit bay has evolved since I said goodbye to my Ampex setup. We used to use a Targa 2000 to put Photoshop images into the switcher, since the computer system was pretty useless as a nonlinear editor due to slow disk drive speeds.
