I had the same problem until I read about the ease of using Project Trimmer on these boards.
Assuming a project is finished, and all you want is the ability to go back to it later, not to re-edit from the source materials, it’s a beautiful thing.
I took a project with about 30 gigs of original assets, and it trimmed down to under 4 gigs. All resulting files are under a gig, so a couple DVD-R discs can get it off the hard drives completely.

That being said, our other Premiere system has been used for 2 years to digitize finished programs off tape – and we have 30+ hard drives on a shelf. Luckily storage is pretty cheap.

looks like panasonic sells the AJ-YAD25 – which it says is for the newer AJ-D255, which replaces the 250 – nicer features actually – do you know if that card will fit the 250?

That’s a good idea. However we have a roving DVCPRO deck. If I capture via firewire with DVCPRO, and also have a decklink card for monitoring and input/output with other sources, it should still work ok, no?

PS – The DVCPRO desktop recorders (AJ-D230 and D250) came with RS-232 for some strange reason. We replaced those cards with RS-422 which we use with the Media 100 systems (no DV on the Media 100 systems) with S-Video (looks great actually). A couple of years ago I had a technician at Panasonic tell me that the firewire add-on card for these desktop recorders outputs DVCPRO, or could be reprogrammed to fudge a DV signal.

Perusing the Panasonic website reveals:

The newer desktop decks and studio decks now have ieee-1394 i/o which can not only switch between DV and DVCPRO , but also take DVCPRO input and record it in DV to DV tape, and vice versa.
Might be time for a new deck (which will happen soon enough since we use these decks constantly)

It was my understanding that the signal which comes out of the DVCPRO machines’ via firewire is DVCPRO, not DV…thanks.

Anything that will convert S-Video to YUV?

when I did an internship for a local cable advertising department, I think they charged $250 for a 30 sec spot – hence you get what you pay for which is most local commercials

no, no third party capture card. It also happens if you hit new title from the bin. I guess I set ctrl+G because it is similar to Media 100.

Also, computers or players which suck the disc in like a dashboard CD player I don’t think can use them.

also would be nice if within a bin you could hit the letter of the item you are trying to get to, such as you can do within Windows Explorer. For instance if you have 500 pics in your bin, and you want one called dog.jpg – hit the “D” key, and you are taken to the D’s in your bin.

Also the fact that you can’t have bins in their own windows or within a tabbed window is very annoying. If you have many bins, you shouldn’t have to scroll through the project window to get at one
