why not lay the FCP timeline to DV tape, then capture into your PC. You won’t lose any quality if everything is DV.
Saves a lot of time rendering.

Don’t forget storage space. My office is half of a loft, so my office and editing setup are on the same long desk. We do not have clients in the office too often, so it stays kind of messy.
We have floor to ceiling shelves dividing the loft in two, giving lots of space for tape storage. Honestly a dedicated storage room for tapes, camera gear and clutter would be great. -
when I do such projects once a year or so, I first manually dub the highlights of each VCR tape to a mini DV tape. Once I have a full 63 minutes on DV, I capture that via my DV camera. That way I have backed up my video to a format which is a bit more robust than VHS, and I can work on the project in Premiere, delete the raw footage and batch digitize at a later date when my schedule permits.

newer tv’s don’t cut off as much as older models. The safe action is there so you do not have essential information outside the normal viewing area. This especially goes for framing your shots in camera, and adding supers. If you have essential information within the outside 10% of the screen area maybe that is a problem, but the border of the image is generally not the most important area of your image/s.

hopefully a future upgrade will indeed improve the bin and media management workings. However a future upgrade will no doubt require Vista, which means we all have to buy new computers.

people hate DRM, don’t they? I think DRM is handled by Windows Media Encoder or Quicktime, as the case may be.

yes I figured this out. I have made a dummy nested sequence to use as a template. The nested sequence contains a black clip with transparency set to 0%, that way I can have transparent elements in my composition, should I want the underlying tracks to show through.
The workflow is different than anticipated, but it appears I had better learn to like it!Mike

I have to agree with you – having just got Grafitti to use in Premiere – it seems to work the same way. You have to apply it as an effect, rather than as a title, such as using the host application’s titler. I guess Boris products are built as effects tools, even the CG. That is not how it used to work, but what are you gonna do?
I guess the benefits of a robust effects program outweigh the inconvenience of changing our workflow to accommodate the new software.

using Powerpoints can be problematic, given the abundance of thin lines, aliased text and general overstuffed slides which do not look good on video.
The problem you refer to sound familiar – try changing the scale so it is within the safe action area.I tend to open every powerpoint slide in Photoshop and tweak it before importing into Premiere.
You can also tweak the Powerpoint file itself before exporting BMP images – adjust font sizes and colors and layout to stay within the safe area.
keep content away from the screen edges and see if you still have this problem.
If you export an AVI, how does that look?
