So once you have edited you show, let’s say using Cineform on the PC in Premiere, then what do you do with it?
Can you make a DVCPRO HD, HDCAM or XDCAM master from that? This assumes you have an SDI interface.
I guess the same goes for HDV – if you edit that in Cineform or Apple codedc how do you go back to a tape?

1. Only thing I can think of is to extend one clip past the out point to restore what was cut out

2. If you delete the audio track from a clip it is gone. Based upon the clip’s time code you should be able to go back to the raw footage in the bin and find the same shot.

You can copy and paste a video only clip into a new sequence, export an EDL, open the EDL in a text editor and add the Audio 1&2 using the correct format, then batch digitize that sequence or a new project, which will restore the same clip/s with audio. This will take longer than manually finding the same clip with audio from your original material in your bin. But I have done this for a whole sequence which I somehow captured sans audio.

3. I do not know how to skip cuts on selected tracks when using page down to go to the next cut. If you have recently had a good cup of coffee, however, it should be easy enough to eyeball it even at a rapid pace. Also, if you are like me and do Page-Down + Ctrl-D repeatedly, you needn’t worry about the cuts on non-targeted tracks, so just go for it. You may get some RSI from the extra keystrokes, but at least you do not need to use the mouse.

4. You can assign a keyboard shortcut for cut. I use Ctrl-/ since this is what the Media 100 uses and I worked on that system for years. Look at the keyboard customization menu, you may learn some new features.

you should convert the DIVX file to DV-AVI. If you have DIVX installed, you could do it with Windows Movie maker – or perhaps with Premiere itself. But editing performance with anything but DV-AVI will be clunky.

people occasionally send me DIVX, regardless of what I have asked for. Medical recording systems often use DIVX. Perhaps Sony or Stryker got a good deal on the use of the DIVX codec, but it is impractical for editing in Premiere.

usually Premiere makes you batch the whole project, not just a timeline like with other software (Avid, Media 100) which can be a drag.

if you have just one effect to paste onto a range of clips, you could setup your effect on one clip with no other effects, then copy and paste attributes. Or if your effect is one of many on a clip, copy just that effect to a dummy clip, then copy and paste attributes of that dummy clip.

You can set in and out points in the preview window (left monitor) – is that what you meant?

this could be the most relevant thread recently. Premiere is a great tool, but combined with other tools it can be even better.

“Premiere edits HDV natively” is good marketing.

“Buy Premiere, and then buy a AJA or Blackmagic or Matrox product so you can do what we say you can do.” Not good marketing!

Is the MJPEG the Decklink HD Extreme uses the same as the Intensity?
So could I capture HDCAM or whatever HD format to the MJPEG or compressed codec, or Cineform, and forgo a RAID, or do you need a RAID regardless?

I saw some demo’s of using a firewire800 drive for HD, but NAB was information overload, and I forget which vendor was shoeing this (Media 100 I think).

Thanks for the info and the clarification. Company websites are a bit lacking in how exactly to do things.

Is there any need to use a intermediary codec such as Cineform, or does the Decklink HD Extreme’s compressed codec suffice?

I think I answered my own question. Need SDI to get non-HDV into a computer (assuming HD tapes).
