Yes, that is what I would like to do. The IT folks are doing an audit of our systems/software.

I’m not actually doing any editing to be honest. This is simple digitize an HD commercial spot and possibly put on a new slate or add a graphic tag to the end. The slow down happens before I add any graphics at all to the project. If I export (Compressor or QTConversion) and change the spot to 1080i, I can start a new 1080i project and bring it in and have no problems whatsoever.

For HD, it is all ProResHQ. I curently, cannot do Uncompressed.

That doesn’t seem to be it. Everything in the Brower says “None” and 23.98. I cannot even play in the Clip Viewer window. Everything slows to a crawl.

It is all ProRes footage. I use the Easy Setup for ProRes 1080psf 23.98. My sequence is set up as Progressive, 23.98, Field Dominance = None.

“Check the footage as Progressive (NONE) on the Browser.”

What setting are you talking about when you say “Browser”

Should I use DiskWarrior to repair the Hard Disk only or could there be problems with the External Drive as well. Will running repair on the External Drive erase any media files or projects?

Thanks for the help. I did the Repair Permissions, I’ll see if that helps. Rebooting didn’t seem to do the trick. I’m going to get Diskwarrior. The descriptions of the HD Directories seems logical. When the problem occurs, it really seems like Final Cut has lost its connections to the HD files or they’ve become corrupt. They won’t play and Final Cut won’t respond to commands.

I have an external 2TB drive connected with Firewire 800 cable. I do not do any regular system maintenance other than clearing out old/unused media. I’d love to know what kind of maintenance I could do we are without IT support for the system. When I have trouble, I usually delete FC preferences and user data. That sometimes fixes certain problems.

Thanks to all. I think John’s post was what I needed. The “Playback Offset” was set to something like 1.5 frames. I put it to zero and started a new project and the resulting tape was frame accurate. I have a KONA 3 card. I’ll do some more testing later, If it happens again, I’ll repos.

It is a ProRes HQ file. I explained to the client the differences between frames per second and fields per second as well as interlaced vs progressive. I believe it is a 1080P file, I just can’t explain why it looks interlaced and why Final Cut drops half the spot when imported.
