I had the same situation moment ago. CS6, Corei7, 16 GB of RAM… and RAM preview stops at no reason on about 1 minute. Also RAM preview was very lazy – even rendering single flat jpg layer in low resolution took very long to render and failed to render completely.
My solution was to reinstal drivers for Nvidia GeForce 560Ti to previous version (301.42), but that was not it. Then I have turned OFF multiprocessing in AE (Edit > Preferences > Memory & Multiprocessing > Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously) and that solved the problem. My version of AE is: 11.0.2.12
Still I find it very odd, since my system HAVE the multiprocessing power… but – as it seems – not for AE.

February 8, 2014 at 3:31 pm in reply to: does after effects have an exclude pathfinder button??I don’t know if I get you right, but this is how I solve problems with shapes/masks/paths. Since I like the logic of such transitions incorporated into Illustrator, where Pathfinder makes all the hustle for me, almost “in background”, I always wanted to have such ease of work in AE. The solution which I find good in most situation looks like that:
1. create your complex shape with pathfinder in AI
2. Save it as *.ai file
3. Import this file into AE
4. Place it on timeline (wherever on the timeline – it doesn’t matter, because you will remove it in a moment)
5. RMB on that *.ai layer on timeline and choose “Create shapes from vector layer”. AE crates then new shape layer which contains a buch of groups of paths with all the dependancies necessary for the shape resamble your original creation made in AI. So AE wors like hitting “Pathfinder button” in AI
6. Remove original *.ai layer from timeline (just not to clutter the workline)I hope I helped a bit 🙂

Thanks for the link Tom. I have wrote to the Dolce systems for advice, since this RAID, which You have is rather too expensive for me. I’m looking for something with less storage space (about 1TB will suffice), but with some better speeds then mine (500MB/s=My SSD, 280 MB/s=My RAID0).
I’m waiting for reply from Dulce, but I don’t know if I will ever get one – my inquiry is low-budget :/ Please tell me Tom – do You know some lower-budget hard drive solutions, which are still better than my acctual RAID0/SSD setup?Creative Creature 🙂

Thanks Walter! I appreciate your time for responding, and your style of respond – very reasonable, and in a noob-friendly way :). Thanks again!

Walter thank You for the low-budget solution 🙂 I will try to render those sequences from AE as a CineForm coded material (by the way – is it possible, or do I have to convert sequences rendered from AE in GoPro CineForm Studio?), and we will see if the responsiveness of system will be better.
One thing I still don’t get – why there are problems with previewing even in 1/8 2K???

Tom, Thank You for a testing app. I have ran one test on drive C (SSD) and E (RAID 0). Here are the results, and – as You have predicted – they are not so good :/
Test: Disk Read + Write Test
Disk: C: (SSD)
Video Frame Size: 2048×1556 10-bit RGB
File size: 8 GB
——————
Write speed: 483 MB/s
Read speed: 510 MB/sTest: Disk Read + Write Test
Disk: E: (RAID 0)
Video Frame Size: 2048×1556 10-bit RGB
File size: 8 GB
——————
Write speed: 284 MB/s
Read speed: 287 MB/sTell me please the details of Your setup (especially the RAID related stuff). I would like to upgrade my system, but would like to use some already tested, and proven solutions – yours looks alike 🙂
Thanks in advance.

Hi there guys!
I would like – if you don’t mind – to pick up the topic in slightly changed conditions.
I’m editing right now a set of image sequences (16-bit PNG in 2K).
My specs:
- Win 7 x64,
- Premiere Pro CS6,
- 16 GB of RAM, (13 GB set to be available for PRPro),
- i7 3770 processor,
- GTX 560Ti graphic card, (GPU hardware acceleration is turned ON (Adobe hack)),
- SSD drive for the system and apps (scratch disk is set on that drive)
- a motherboard-based RAID 0 array to stash the sources…
I think it’s pretty damn good machine. But… sadly Premiere Pro CS6 just CAN’T deal smoothly with my material. I get the yellow timeline bar, but I can’t preview my edit even in 1/8 2K (it’s 256×135… WTF???!!!!) The preview starts in real-time, but after a 2-3 seconds it starts to stutter, to almost complete freeze after 5-6 seconds. I have NO EFFECTS applied. Only PNG sequences and sound. My processor during preview is almost idle (10-12%) and RAM usage for whole system is about 3 GB.
Those image sequences are rendered from AE. I thought that it would be the easiest way to work on with it in PRPro, but – obviously – it isn’t. So my question is:
1) is it true, what I heard that PRPro “doesn’t like” image sequences?
2) what codec is absolutely FAVORITE for PRpro on such system as mine and will allow me to preview 2K material in real-time (or even 1/2 2K) without the need of rendering the preview?I will be grateful for any responses, because I have spent lot of cash on that machine… and I’m even more frustrated, then before the buy.

Thanks Bart for your respond. My situation has changed too – I have moved with my editing to After Effects (due to problems with replacing, mentioned above, and big amount of manipulations on the clips, which are better handeled in AE). But – just to close the case: You acctually can avoid messing-up the in-cut point in PR with SHIFT+ALT+DRAG, instead of ALT+DRAG

September 4, 2012 at 11:22 am in reply to: Can i run Adobe CS6 or CS5 master collection on my pc?and – in addition to the above reply – if You want to install 64-bit system on your machine, I advise to double the amount of RAM. 6GB is absolutely minimum for working quite comfortably on Win7 64bit, and Adobe CS.
And one more trivial thing – you can always download 30-day trial versions of those applications and install them. They do not differ from full versions in terms of system requirements and functionality. Go to adobe.com for that.

Bart, can You please put more specific conclusion? I have exatly THE SAME situation as yours, but changing the interpreted fps in Premiere (both to final DPX sequence and MOV proxy) doesn’t help on the “in-cut” position issue.
Generally both my fpses mach – both are interpreted as 25fps “on the start”. They are both created from the same RED files recorded in slow motion (it was 50 fps, as I remember) – but that should not be important really, right? Both the clips were to be played in 25 fps, and that’s the value they are interpreted with by Premiere.
So what was your way of solving this hole problem of changed the “in-cut” position?
Thank You in advance for Your time, to help me.
EDIT: HERE YOU HAVE a video which illustrate the problem, step-by-step:
https://youtu.be/ubS7mVZE4tcEDIT2: For all of you, who suffer from above ‘bizzaremente’ – the solution is as simple as SHIFT+ALT+drag, instead of ALT+drag. 🙂 That way the in and out points are preserved.
