Alex, by chance I have similar issue – I try to replace MOV proxies with final DPX sequences. I select a proxy in Project Panel, then I choose “Replace footage” and navigate to my final sequence…

And – strangely – there’s no “import as image sequence” checkbox which should be located bottom left of the import window.

So I can only replace my MOV file with a single image. Is it a bug you are speaking abiut? I work on a single monitor – completely normal 🙂

EDIT: I have also tried alt+drag trick, but there are issues here to. When the clip is replaced by the sequence this way, it resets the CUT-IN point of the clip to the beginning of the source sequence. So if you have had edited a proxy, by cutting out for example first 3 seconds, now – when you have replaced it with an image sequence – the CUT-IN point is at the beginning of the file, not after 3 seconds.

!!!!!!EDIT: A SOLUTION:

For all of you, who suffer from above ‘bizzaremente’ – the solution is as simple as SHIFT+ALT+drag, instead of ALT+drag. 🙂 That way the in and out points are preserved.

I have installed this demo, but – still darkness…

BUT…. . . this codec from another publisher solved the problem!!!! HURRAY!!!!

So for all of you, who had some problems with mainconcept – try Morgan Multimedia’s MJPEG codec. Available (also a demo) here:

EDIT: my solution (worked for me):
1. Uninstall k-lite or other codec packs with some more advanced unninstaller software (I have used Smarty Unninstaller) with “cleaning after” option enabled.
2. Run CCleaner and scan registry for problems (just in case). Remember make a copy of actual registry.
3. Install MJPEG codec – Morgan Multimedia’s MPJPEG codec applicable for your system (32, or 64 bit)
4. Restart

No no no, Ann, I was not asking You to install k-lte, but MJPEG! 🙂

But let me clear out some stuff:

I don’t know if I understand You properly – You are saying, that you already HAVE Mainconcept MJPEG codec on the system, and that it SOLVES the problem apparently (no black monitor)?

If that’s true – does the link you gave me earlier, is the same codec you have on your system?

Yes, I have read about k-lite messing-up. BUT I have installed it AFTER installing MJPEG codec on clean system didn’t solve the situation.

Then I have uninstalled k-lite, run Smarty Unninstaller and CCleaner to clean up after k-lite. Next – i have reinstalled MJPEG codec… and still nothing good 🙁

Could You be so nice and check if this file WILL open in your Premiere CS6 after you have installed this codec?

Just import this file to your sequence, and put it on timeline, and tell me if the Monitor is black while playing the timeline. If You can check if the file is playable by some players on your system (KMPlayer, VLC, or something else), it could give me some info too.

I have almost the same issue. My error says:

After Effect warning: Error with file: ‘here-is-a-path-to-the-file’

Everything was alright yesterday, and now – this. Maybe it’s because AE update which runs in the background, and i COULD have installed some updatetes without a proper attention (they always popu-up, and I just want to get rid of them, so I click OK – I know: it’s not so wise 🙂

So if out there, there is somebody who knows what to do – please respond.

Thanks Walter – I will try Turbulent displace & posterize time in AE.

But for those who are willing to achieve this in PS, I recommend Filter Forge 3.0 Plugins (https://www.filterforge.com). In the package You will find a filters named “Bad Trip” and “Noise Distortion” (both by Vladimir Golovin). Those should help to do the trick, because both of them creates unique patterns based on variations. So You can achieve the very needed “randomness” in distortion, which I personaly could have not find in basic PS filters (by my experience every basic filter has the same flaw of creating patterns based on the image itself).
