I always test things on a worst case scenario. I’m watching it on an old 27″ standard tube TV that I have around for just such a purpose. Lots of jaggies and flickers everywhere, motion stuttering. Also, there’s a fireplace scene and the screen flickers across the entire frame at the fireplace level, similar to when you have white text on a black background and see a dark band all the way across the frame at text level if that makes sense.

Sorry Jeremy, it’s late and I’ve been on this thing all day trying to finish up. My sequence settings for the timeline is 23.98. The original footage was shot in 1080p 23.98fps, the FCP sequence settings always show the aspect ratio as 1080i in the settings box, but the footage is 23.98p with the sequence comformed to that. Haven’t done a DVD in a while so my brain is fogged on this one. Thanks so much for your help. It doesn’t look bad at all for a local production but this has the potential for national distribution so it has to be right.

I appreciate the link Rob, unfortunately it doesn’t give me what I need to output a quality master SD DVD from a 1080i 23.98 timeline. Believe me, I’ve done an exhaustive search and have found nothing that outlines a “best case scenario” for this particular workflow. Thanks for the input though.

How in the heck did this thread turn into a discussion on the latest fashion trends in the edit suite??? I’ll bite, the other day it was freakin 98 in the shade with an air quality code red. My poor AC had a hard time keeping the studio below 82. I put on a pair of tattered shorts when I got up and that’s as far as it got. Now, I had no appointments and the only person seeing me was my wife but dang that was fun!!

Yep, H264 seems to do the trick. Funny, I always use H264 with special presets when I upload to Vimeo for client approval, but for some stupid reason I never thought to use it in this application. I keep forgetting .mov is a catch all wrap. Once again thanks to all and BTW:
Steven and Mark and everyone who contributes to this forum, THANK YOU!! Through your patient help and expertise I am using Motion more and more which has expanded my skill set which in turn makes me more money. Sometimes when I post a question I’m in a hurry to get a job out the door and don’t give you guys props. Well here ’tis! Thanks again.

[Stephen Smith] “What codec is she watching it as? Can you send her an H.264 or .WMV and then send the IT guy a different version?
“I don’t know. She’s playing it back in QT on her PC, so whatever QT decides to unwrap it as is what she’s seeing. Obviously QT for PC isn’t the same program as QT for Mac seeing as the same rendered clips look great on my Mac on a 27″ monitor. I’m trying to avoid a lot of back and forth with her. All she wants to do is to be able to see the clips in the same quality as the Vimeo uploads I showed her for approval.
I can send her anything, question is, what looks good on QT for PC?? And can that same codec be used by the IT guy to encode for the web?? I’d rather do it myself but…..he’s an IT guy and of course knows much more than I do….no offense to any IT guys in the house…..OK yeah, I meant it, go ahead and take offense….
