[Mark Petereit] “Eliminate all the guesswork: use a broadcast video card and a broadcast monitor to view your work. If you only have your computer monitor to rely on, you’ll never really know what you’re going to get.
“Thanks for your response Mark but that’s really not the issue. All looks well on my monitor(broadcast), it’s when she plays it back on her laptop in QT that’s the problem.

No, final destination is the web, but the client wants to view it on her PC. I wanted to give her a H264 file but her IT guy wanted .mov, I guess he’s going to encode it for the web himself. She just needs to be able to review the clips on her laptop. Any suggestions as to an output codec that would look great on her PC and give the IT guy what he wants?? I’ve already done my own encoding for the Vimeo and it looks awesome but that’s not what she wanted.

Congratulations Walter and Rich. Walter, you’ve been a constant source of inspiration and this move is no exception. I have my eye on an old building in our historic downtown right now. I have no desire to expand at this moment but I can dream ya know. Slow and steady growth, that’s the ticket! Can’t wait to see the new facility, might have to do a road trip this winter.

I ended up using Snapz Pro scaled to 400% rendered to a TIFF file. While not fantastic, I think it will be just fine for this project. One thing I don’t understand is as I did an animated zoom in to a certain part of the frame, the quality got better. The frame was around 20% and I was zooming in using keyframes on the Z axis. Didn’t make sense to me. Anyone have an explanation?
PS. The more I use Motion, the more I likes it!!

[Mark Spencer] “It won’t be vector, you are making a bitmap image. “
Your right, I just tried it. Looks like crap. Guess I’ll try Snapspro.

Thanks guys, all good ideas. I’m leaning towards PDF since it’s vector.

You gotta do what’s you gotta do to keep the doors open. Me personally, I’d rather clean boat bottoms than work on a political campaign ad.

Thanks Andy, that explains a lot. I have a ATI XT1900 which isn’t the best. As far as working formats for the DS network, H264 worked great. So, thanks everyone for the input!! Once again, COW Rocks!!

Thanks everyone, I’m going to try both and see what looks better. Really appreciate the input. I gotta say, Motion is perfect for doing DS content. Easy to manage workflow, not too steep a learning curve, intuitive interface. The only thing I don’t like is the way it handles hi rez PSD layered files. Wondering if that has changed in Motion 3.

Dang!! Yer quick. Thanks again. That’s what I figured. Up until now I’ve only created Motion projects to be used inside of FCP projects so this was never an issue. Fortunately the content is very short loops, :20 or less so I can export the whole file in a number of formats without to much render time. Hopefully the players will be able to do seemless looping, I won’t know that until we get some content up.
