June 24, 2010 at 1:44 amTwo options:
Buy Adobe After Effects, Trapcode Form, Trapcode Particular, Trapcode Shine, Trapcode Lux, Knoll Light Factory and Knoll 3D Flare and Cassidy Bisher’s Text Effects,
– or –
do what Cassidy Bisher did, figure out how to do it in Apple Motion, and sell Nick Falangas’ 3D Spinning Particle Effects yourself.

June 24, 2010 at 1:55 amYou say you are on a Mac yet this was created in After Effects – you know AE runs on a Mac, correct? You didn’t ask to know how to create this effect in Motion, is that what you want to know how to do? It’s certainly possible, but not something that can be explained in a forum post. You’ll need to get familiar with Motion’s particle engine – the preset Emitters are a great place to start.

June 24, 2010 at 2:40 pmThe Particle Metrix plug-in can do what you want in seconds. It has a 15 day free trial. Take a look at it here: https://idustrialrevolution.com/idrplugins/particlemetrix/index.html Best of luck. It can be done in Motion as well it just takes forever to do and the plug-in is a lot faster.

June 25, 2010 at 12:35 amAbsolutely not what I am looking for. Come on guys, I am looking for some serious high quality 3D spinning particles. I mean look at some of the videos that VideoCopilot is doing with AE
https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/shatterize/
I am very supportive of FCS but this time around I think AE has it in the bag with this particular 3D spinning particle to text. Problem is now, do I really want to invest in this software??
Okay well thanks for all your feedback guys

There’s nothing in that Red Giant video you can’t do in Motion. Break it down and the impressive-looking bits at the start and end are just very basic camera moves through a fairly simple 3D particle system. Yes, you’ll have to experiment and put some work in to get that “organic” look to the particles but it’s all completely doable in Motion. Get the 15-day trial of ParticleMetrix and start playing with it.
