[walter biscardi] “When I feel like I’m getting too many resumes, I’ll start emailing mine back to those folks. I figure I’m getting a ton of unsolicited resumes, might as well send mine back to them. :-)”
Sounds like a Seinfeld routine. Think “Pinky Toe Episode”

Same problem here only mine is more compounded in that I also do photography and sound production as well as live event production and lighting. Coming up shortly I will have two websites, one for the production company and one for me myself and I that will be more or less a melting pot site for my non production oriented creative endeavors. More like an on line CV with work examples and links to web sites for other projects I’m working on.

Interesting that no one has caught something that stood out to me from the get go. “Television” Production Company?? “Television”??? I’ve done one spot for TV in the last 6 months. Most of my work is for distribution(on line and DVD) or for the web. I checked this place out, they have Full Time studies in everything from automotive repair to baking….
I’m sure if you wanted to study belly button lint full time they would design a course for you and take your money preparing you for a career in the exciting cutting edge field of belly button lint.

I think we all tend to forget that our only job is to make the client happy and get paid for it. If the client is happy with a mediocre production with mediocre sound and mediocre lighting, than so be it. Make them happy, get paid, move on. While this might not be as satisfying as creating a killer spot with a big budget, it’s reality if you want to stay afloat.
I just got a contract to create the content for and manage a 12 screen DS network. Most of it will be Mograph stuff and I will be creating new content and updating old content on a regular basis. The pay isn’t that great, BUT, I am in no way shape or form a Mograph artist. They don’t have the budget for one. So I get paid to learn and practice an aspect of the business that will allow me to get much higher paying work in the future. Here’s the kicker….they think I’m a creative and technical genius and I’m certainly not going to correct them on that fallacy.

Hey Jeremy, thanks again for your help last night. Final product is MUCH better. I used your tips and then added a few tweeks and I now have an acceptable product. Client came by today to get his review copy and was elated.
[Jeremy Garchow] “nd I bet this is the composite signal on a tube tv? It sounds like chroma crawl to me. “
That makes sense. The tube tv doesn’t have component. Sounds like a live with it situation.
[Jeremy Garchow] “And you have to remember you are watching an SD signal with your tv doing the up-convert. If your DVD or TV supports progressive, I’d throw that switch. Most like, your DVD player will have a ‘progressive’ switch or something similar to it. “
I’ll try it. I also think changing fonts will help tremendously as well. The client insisted on a Serif typewriter style font against my advice. Now that he’s seen the result, he’s reconsidering thankfully.

Hey Dave, thanks for the input. I checked frame rate of the original footage and it’s 23.98. I just burned a new copy and played it back on a tube tv as well as 42″ LCD. It’s getting better, much better, but still not what I would consider broadcast or distribution ready. Any scenes with white text on black background show a distinct banding in the black along the text plane. All of the text flickers, more so on the LCD. In the fireside scene, the whole screen flickers a bit on the plane of the fire, only on the tube tv though, looks great albiet a bit dark on the LCD. I’m starting to suspect I may not be in legal colors since the issues only occur in the extremes of the color spectrum, especially black. What’s your thoughts given this information. Much appreciated.

One quick note, if I UNcheck “make movie self contained”, the “recompress all frames” box is greyed out. Does this make a difference?

It’s just that easy…
Jeez!!! I feel like I’ve been scratching my left ear with my right hand. I’ll give it a whirl Jeremy, thank you so much. I gotta stop reading Ken Stone…

No apologies needed! I just appreciate the help…
The piece is 28 minutes long.
I’m using Compressor. I’ve tried exporting straight from the timeline in a few different formats and then taking that file into Compressor and rendering out at DVD 90 minute best quality. I’ve tried dropping the original sequence into an SD sequence, rendering, and then exporting using “Current Settings” and then going into Compressor and rendering out at DVD 90 minute best quality. I’m missing something here and I just can’t put my finger on it.
