December 15, 2017 at 10:54 am in reply to: High Sierra doesn’t recognize AVCHD files and Premiere 2018 makes it worseI spent 2 hours with an Apple Support Senior Engineer tonight. She gave me a potentially good temporary workaround. You have to download VLC media player. Then you can drag the .mts file into the VLC and it opens fine. Well, that solves some of the problems. So, if any of you know how we can make Quicktime to default to this… Quicktime has a thing on the bottom when you right-click to choose default and it’s applications. I’ve tried to make it default to VLC several times and it won’t work.
Apple is going to be getting back to me tomorrow. They had to go to their lab while I was explaining this problem and several other senior techs were involved. They think they will have it solved shortly. I explained how many hundreds of editors this is affecting.

Also, when you check the Adobe boards, you’ll see literally hundreds of people are having this problem.
a question: How can I roll back my Apple OS to Sierra? And, if I do so, what do I lose? Most posters have done all of this, rolled back Premiere and it still doesn’t work. At least I’m not the only person with this problem, appears it’s everyone that updated. And, yes, it appears to be Quicktime. Apparently, Apple doesn’t want to support AVCHD files anymore and now Quicktime if built into the actual OS as of High Sierra. A large number of editors out there are using MTS files and this is creating such a big stink that it would seem like Apple would address it instead of hiding from it.Mickey Grant

It captures fine into an SD project. With MC 5.51 is it then possible to import it into a HD project?
As I indicated, in my HD project I think I’ve done everything right in the settings to capture it. Is it because it’s drop frame?

Then what would I do? Import it?

Here’s my specs:
Windows XP Pro, service pack 3, Media Composer 4.05, Intel Core I7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 Ghz, 4 gigs ram, Graphics card ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (ran composer 3 just fine)What happens is that everything works… I can even open capture and play the video in order to cue it up. Everything looks great, for that reason I don’t think it’s my “unqualified” capture card. But the moment I hit capture to record, the entire system crashes.

I am sorry I didn’t post this, I’ve been up 3 days trying to solve problem. I fixed the access violation as it was a corrupted Aclpu file, something like that.
I can actually edit and do everything, export files, etc. I don’t think it’s my unqualified Video card which worked fine with 3.0. I think if there was a problem with the card, then when I open capture, and simply play the video in order to cue it up, it works perfect. It’s the second I hit capture that it totally crashes.

I’ve been editing with Avid for over 6 years and have never run into something like this. I talked to an Avid tech last night and he thought maybe it was something wrong with my system but since I’ve now tested it on Premiere and Win Movie maker and it captures fine, I’d say my 1394 capture card is fine and the 1394 on the board are fine. Does anyone have Premiere also installed on the same drive? I wonder if there is some kind of conflict there?
