  • I’ve heard of Master Properties and, in fact, Adobe gave me a chance to preview them. It’s game-changing.

    Seriously.

I’ve had projects where this would have saved me DAYS of work.

You can read a bit more about it here: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/behind-screen/adobe-intros-master-properties-effects-nab-1099057

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

  • That’s rather odd. What exact version number of AE are you using?

  • After Effects has begun having the ability to use data right inside AE using JSON stuff. See this page for some more information: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/data-driven-animations.html

It’s brand new, so I would be unsurprised to see future versions of AE building on this sort of capability.

There are a number of different techniques that might work including the puppet tool, the Reshape effect, the Mesh Warp effect, and the Bezier Warp effect. It all kinda depends on the shot.

  • If you have Red Giant’s Universe, there’s also a long shadow effect in there. 🙂

  • The best way is to use a typeface that has several different weighted fonts to it.
Wait, are you wanting to animate this at all?

Can you share an example that doesn’t involve downloading a zip file?

If you would like an infinitely better snapshot solution, check out FX Console from Video Copilot. It is free and besides having a much better snapshot solution, it also has a really nice workflow boost when adding effects or animation presets.

Does adding an ambient light make it go away?

Any chance you could share a stripped-down file that demonstrates the issue for one of us to poke at?

    Much better!
I don’t think that’s really an issue with any shadows; that looks to me like an issue with the shading and how the light falloff works.
What happens if you change your materials to Physical Shaders instead of Standard Shaders (assuming you’re using Element V.2)?
