Depending on how your shot moves, Mocha to get a planar track or the 3d camera tracker. 🙂

What you are describing is exactly what the video is showing you how to do, isn’t it?

The ray-traced renderer, the settings you’re looking at in your screenshot, has nothing to do with particles or with anything most people use After Effects for. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. 🙂

I’ve not noticed it stretching it a whole lot vertically. Can you share an example of what you mean?

  • Does any of that reflect anything you’ve got in your project?

It looks to me like the anchor point or position keyframes aren’t linear, but the scale keyframes are. If you select all of your keyframes, right-click, and choose keyframe interpolation and set them all to linear, does it go away?

    Yeah, I’d try AE’s built-in Detail-Preserving Upscale first.
If you have some of Red Giant’s tools, you might also have “Instant 4K” – it’s part of the Shooter Suite. https://www.redgiant.com/products/instant-4k/

  • That’s a good guess. Precompose the shot with the clone stamp (moving all attributes) and then you can apply the heat distortion. 🙂

I mean, I understand that, but in 3d (as with real life cameras), there’s really only one plane that’s truly fully in focus. Dropping the amount of blur is the same thing as having more of the image appear in focus.

Now, if they wanted to make more of it be in focus and then still drop into blur as much as it does, it wouldn’t be realistic, but I’ll bet they could add a Curves effect on the blur map to adjust it more how they want it.

I mean, I only suggested using AME because it comes included with Creative Cloud; if you have other video convestion tools (FFMPEG, Handbrake, etc.) you could try that too.
