Adding noise or grain is the most common technique. Now, there are many ways to add that variation/dithering that you’re looking for. I, personally, like to use either Fractal Noise (with some tweaking on the look) or a stock grunge map (like old paper) very lightly overlaid.

Element is an effect on a layer. It is not positioned in the After Effects 3d space at all. It recognizes the camera, but it can’t interact with other layers. The solution is to put that text on a cylinder inside Element.

You could get really close to that by blurring your matte, using Colorama on it (without interpolating between the knots), and animating the input or output cycle.

If you know the focal length of the lens that was used, you can tell AE and that’ll help make the track and result more accurate.

In this case, you don’t need to do a camera track. A regular planar track or even a point track will work just fine. A camera solve is going to be really difficult to do because there’s barely any parallax in the shot for the camera to work with.

If it’s just a cosmetic issue, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. However, once you’re through with your current project, be aware that a new update for AE was just released today. 16.1.0 just came out. It’s got a lot of bug fixes as well as some new features like Content-Aware Fill for video, a new expression editor, and lots more.
