  • Green bar not showing above timeline when previews have been cached.

Posted by Jesse Eslinger on April 2, 2019 at 3:47 pm

When previewing my timeline with spacebar, previews are being cached and playing back just fine. But recently I get no green bar (or blue bar) it only shows the dark grey, as if nothing has been previewed. I have tried the usual: restarts, purging cache, going through settings but I cannot figure this one out. Has anyone else seen this?

See Screenshot below. Everything between blue time indicator and red preview indicator should show a green bar.

If it’s just a cosmetic issue, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. However, once you’re through with your current project, be aware that a new update for AE was just released today. 16.1.0 just came out. It’s got a lot of bug fixes as well as some new features like Content-Aware Fill for video, a new expression editor, and lots more.

Thanks for the reply Michael, hopefully the update is the fix. It is more than a cosmetic issue though. Currently I have a 5 minute, very heavy comp and I want to be selective about what sections I am waiting on to be previewed. If playback is slow while a preview is being created, I can’t tell if the next 4 minutes need to be previewed (not going to wait for that) or if there are 15 more frames until I can play the whole comp in real-time (I would gladly wait for that). So, it’s not the worst thing in the world, but it does have an impact on efficiency.

UPDATE: Slightly embarrassing, but deleting preferences fixed it. I just figured this particular glitch couldn’t have been caused by preference file but next time I am going to try this sooner. Thanks!
