I just added this comment to another thread but it works here too…
I use qtchange for 5d stuff – to force a reel name and unique TC onto every clip

(2 recommendations in 2 minutes – i should be on commission)

I recommend qtchange for 5D stuff – force a reel name and timecode onto all the clips before the edit (ideally) https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/42/qtchange/

I’d ask for the twixtored project to be rendered as dpx’s and grade the actual edit.

HI Yoav
Thanks for your reply..
Unfortunately as the feature was getting sound made elsewhere I couldn’t change the frame rate of the film or I would have lost sync. However it all proved to not be a problem in the end other that Resolve wasn’t playing the offline back at the right speed (it was playing a 23.98 offline at 24 in a 23.98 project)

I’m just grading some test shots from a ikonoskop in .DNG (using v8.2.1). Bit of a weird camera but lovely results after grading – feels like 16mm

Reading between the lines 9 won’t be out soon… if they are readying 8 for the camera release then 9 will not land till autumn (fall if you prefer).

Da vinci 8.2, yes

I know – none of these happen when I drive AEFX. But they are gotchas that working with (inexperienced) AeFX people can cause a Colourist so I thought they were worth adding as this was a AeFX to Resolve workflow thread.
Unfortunately as a Colourist I don’t get to pick the entire post team (!) and can’t always even flag these things up as the VFX has finished before I’m even on board.

Issues I often find when AE is in my workflow:
They often come back with a gamma shift so this would negate you grading the unprocessed clip in advance.
I’ve also had VFX guys just send me the frames in the shot where the effect happens – that’s where the gamma shifts are killer.
Shots from AE have also come back (more often than not) with a start TC of 00:00:00:00
Maybe I’ve been unlucky

First I don’t own an intensity pro and haven’t done this
but if you wanted to use a screen like a panasonic vt30 plasma say over hdmi then you would need to use a probe like the xrite i1 in conjunction with some profiling and calibration software to either get the monitor displaying accurate rec709 (presumably) or close to rec709 with a display LUT in DaVinci getting it bang on.
Software that is out there are things like Cine-tal Cinespace (recently bought by THX) or LightSpace CMS.
Unfortunately they will cost you more than the 50″ plasma. If you really want to get into it I’d suggest https://www.avsforum.com/is a good place. Though it’s mainly about home theatre set ups there is some very knowledgable people on there.M
