That’s what I thought Robin but I’ve been through the lot and checked. And as I said Catalyst Browser sees the card and will allow me to do a transcode to Prores.

So after further investigation I cannot get either of the PMW500 cards to load into FCP X. These are UDF formatted cards.

Both cards can be read fine and I can transcode a file to Prores in Catalyst Browse. But FCP doesn’t read them at all. Just sees black

I can read and ingest a card formatted in a F55 in XAVC mode into FCP X 10.1.3 perfectly fine.

  • Or pan the VO L and have the effects panned in the middle…. Which can be very quickly done using roles and the inspector. Just remember to se roles at the start of the edit.

I say this as some stations still like voice on L and effects and bites on the R so that they appear that way on the desk in the gallery.

  • David,

One thing that’s worth checking is what happens if you play the file out. If I remember rightly you would get a mix of both audio channels.

You still need to Pan the channels L and R if you were to send this down a line.

All I would say (without any knowledge at all) is that in a very short time, from V10.9 upwards (I think), Apple have changed/tweaked the library structure at every update.

It looks to me that whatever they are up to – they an’t finished yet 🙂

    Hi Cat,

Sorry – no ideas then. What FCP X version are you on? My discovery was based on 10.9, so with the changes to the library system in 10.1.2 I suspect its all all a bit different.

    All the best.

Welll… Unless I’m missing something, you can store cache files where you want but the cache contains proxy and render files – you can’t separate the proxy media and render files in separate places.

Almost there Apple…. 7/10 for effort.

If we could split it, say render on the main drive and proxy in the project it would be amazing..

mmm. weird. I’ve done loads of multi cam shoots and we’ve never had an issue.

Personally I try really hard to avoid Jam sync, and prefer to use lockit or Timecode buddy boxes that keep a constant TC ref. With Jam sync its all to easier for a hiccup to occur.
