It really don’t matter where you put the content files, on a desktop that I have always mounted “other” disk I put the media on there.
My concern with your setup is how you have the external drives hooked up.

The uninstall process is very complicated if you are trying to do it by hand. There are a lot of parts that need to be removed before reinstalling. I recommend using FCS Remover.

If they are saying the components check out but lets replace them anyway (and for a grand) I would have them send back the camera and retest with all the cards (minus the know bad one.
there is one possible “other” explanation, the camera is bad and every now and then the camera is making a card go bad, but it seems no liking a card went bad.
It is your money but I think I would forgo spending the grand myself until I did the test myself.

These are 2 different video signal.But listing things with comments like “I think” and “whatever you can it” is not what you need to be doing. You need to be conveying clear. accurate settings and info.
Thing that you need to be listing.
Footage Codec, sequence codec – Uncompressed 8 or 10 bit? ProRes? DV?

What is your seq setting? SD DV will be about 2.3GB, ProRes SD will be about 3.2 GB. IF you are working with DV I would do the PAL in DV. If you are using HD or something better than DV I would go to ProRes.
But the other things you need to be concerned with is the NTSC to PAL (if that is something you are going) It is not a simple change the settings and reexport. Compressor can do it but it is know to only do a so so good. Nattress Filters has a standards conversion that is really good for software.
Then different frame rates are converted differently. If you are working with 24p you normally just retime the video and audio to PAL’s 25. Also PAL using lower field first for DV but upper for everything else. (I know it did for tape and I’m assuming it does for files, may want to check that)

I would too, that adds I think $400 but seams like it is well worth it.

That is how people copy a DVD, they use a ripping software.
