Just a really bad habit, names should only have letters, numbers, dashes and underscores. That way nothing with have a problem with it. Nope, as long as something is different, just do want ever makes more sense to you. If I were going to carry the card numbering through the days (not starting at 01 on the new day) would name the folders – Card_01-20100912, I want what is different to be first, once again not a right or wrong, just the way I like it. -
He is going through Vimeo so it doesn’t matter what his codec starts out as, VImeo is re-encoding everything (as I understand it). Diffidently not a professional way to pass files along.
So the FCP guy is going to have to transcode anyway so I would change anything on the PC side if that is working ok.

There is no right or wrong here, it is what works for you. The main thing that you copy the complete intact folder and file structure of the card to separate Folders.
But if I were doing it I would use
Main Folder ATL
Subfolders:
20100912-Card_01
20100913-Card_01
20100913-Card_02
20100913-Card_03
and so on.Keep names clean, no “,” no spaces. As compacted as possible is my rule of thumb.

You cannot edit H264 in FCP, they will need to convert it to something like ProRes. THis is answered a couple times a day.

Yes on the 1920×1080, the HDV 1440x is not a true size, software like FCP knows to play it back at 1920x, so when you convert it to H264 you would want to go to the correct size.
I would try 15 Mbps to start with. See how that looks to you.

There is no editing codec down from HDV. If you need to reduce size try H.264 1920×1080 at a really high bitrate.
But the real question is what do THEY want? Is it for the internet? Will they re-compress it?

DV for A/B editing, should work fine with FW400 but not much else. Other option is to buy a drive with FW800.

there would not be much if any gain. I would stick with a DV workflow.

we need to break the old tape habits. Free Run Time of Date is so much more useful.

all you do is set the video out to be down converted to SD, It will have to do out as 29.97i and not 23.98.
