Are you in camera mode or VTR mode. You should be in VTR mode.
But those settings will have nothing to do with the FW out.
Are you keeping the settings on DV all the way those? Do you have video on the cameras screen? Since you are not controlling the camera or FireStore with each other but both are pretty much passive it should just work. You see the video on the camera’s LCD, hit record on the FS and it should be recording.

Of course the list of best ISO for the 7D is useless to 550D/T2i users because we are fixed to full stop ISO and not 1/3s like the 7D can do.
But this is one place where video camera to DSLR isn’t a direct path. While gain and ISO settings are similar to one another the DSLR handles the upping of the light sensitivity much better. You would never gain up 18dB on any video camera and except low noise but with a DSLR you can shoot with 800 and even 1600 on some cameras and get very good results.
For the 550/T2i I think that 800 ISO is the max unless you can live with a good bit of noise.

?? there is no such thing, 720p is only 16:9 square, do you mean 480 (there is no pN in SD).
Letterbox is a 4:3 image with the video scaled to fit. If you shoot SD as Squeeze you will have a full frame widescreen image. But that must be interrupted correcting by the display. A BetaSP does not know what is full WS vs Letterboxed. This is something that a DVD player can do but almost all SD broadcast is letterboxed.
By I would always shoot squeezed because you have normally letterbox when printing to tape without a loss in quality but if you want a 16:9 DVD you have to enlarge the letterbox it get rid of the bars.

No it is not.DVD is 720×480 for NTSC or 720×576 for PAL, that is true for 4:3 or 16:9
m2v is the only codec for DVD.
Just look through the manual would be time well spent.

You have zebras on your DSLR camera?I would say cinematographers use meters all the time. If you are setting lights they help to get the ratios you want in your frame.

Personally I think VBR encoding for 90 minutes is a wast of time. CBR at 6.2Mbps will be faster to encode and safer on playback. High bitrate VBR can cause playback issues unless you are replicating the DVD. For DVD-Rs I would not go over 7 Mbps (max)
The prefs are only for video that has not been encoded before you bring it into DVDSP so you do not need to match it up.

Peter, if you don’t want to call it an internship, call it an apprenticeship, which as a very long history in the arts. What Steve is talking about is well within the normal run of things. If you read what he is saying he is will to offer some training (even if it is for self interest, it also benefits the “kid”).
Within reason this can be a win-win for both sides.
