Honestly I would think about renting the mics and hiring a sound guy/gal. Having the equipment without the knowhow can lead to a lot of cursing in the editing room. Of course if this has a lot of shot days the budget for this can be huge, but it the doc is really important it is money well spent.

I wish the video showed the device a little bit more but the shots are great.

it would save everything the way it is in the tab, the source video and encoding settings. I never save.

Did you even try Rafael’s post, he answered your question. Doing it that way there is no quality lose.

    You have to start over.

HD DVD is a dead format.

You have to encode the video as SD m2v and then author a SD DVD.

Why not read the answer that dates back over 2 years on this thread. You can build it for the next 1000 years and the disc will never work. HD DVD is a dead format.

You have to encode the video as SD m2v and then author a SD DVD. You have to start over.

There are a lot of good workshops out there but also look at the DVD tutorials, don’t have to take off work and they are a great value. I don’t have Noah’s one on DSLR but I have other subjects and they are great.

I would also recommend Robbie C’s Richard H’s book on the subject, From Still to Motion. Great resource.

If you are authoring in DVDSP then it is a waste of time to go through the Share process. You can use Send to Compressor, or make a ref movie and just drop into Compressor then take the m2v and ac3 files into DVDSP and author.

I’m not a fan of VBR encoding when you can use high bitrates. I would always you a CBR encoding anytime the average bitrate is over 6Mbps, which it is if you are using 90 minute preset.

Do you want/need to author the DVD in DVDSP?

The Share feature in Compressor just adds a simple finishing of the file, so if the resulting DVD is what you want then do it that way. If you it doesn’t than encode and use DVDSP. There is no quality difference.

Yes, MCR/VCR mode, that turns the camera into a deck.

How are you hooking up the VHS to the camera? Do you see the image on the LCD? Are you keeping everything set to DV25, camera and FS?
