If you have a flash on all six cameras set the in point and sync by in point.

I would never want to do back to the old way, multicam is worth its weight in gold, but how much does a software feature actually weigh??????????

[Daniel C. Slagle] “I switched to using the “Easy Setup” DV50 – NTSC “

That is the wrong setting, you are bring in DV (DV25) not DV50.

Drop frames is normally a problem with slower hard drives or as stated above hooking the camera and hard drive up to the same port. That is why a second FW800 card is a good idea.

    Note about stabilization in FCP6.

The analyze procedure analyzes the entire piece of footage. So if you are using a 30 seconds of clip at is 15 minutes long it will analyze the entire 15 minutes not just the part in the timeline. This is a slow process but the results are great.

The other thing you can do is buy Shake, since it is only $500 now and it would help with the upscaling also. This would/should give you a little better workflow since you can “Send to Shake” each clip you want to work on.

Also better quality always means more render time, in this case a lot more render time.

Don’t think you are follow me, I’m not saying edit with DVCProHD if the project is not started.

Mastering, to me at least, is just the last stage of the process and not the process. So if you question is what codec should I edit with at the start of the project, is different than asking about printing a master from an existing timeline.

Are you starting to edit or are you just printing to tape from an existing timeline. If your project is done you have not be gaining anything by converting codecs at the end. So lets say your timeline is DVCProHD everything is done rendered ready to go, I would just do an edit to tape with that codec, nothing is going to be gained by converting to Uncompressed or ProRes at that point.

Does your image look correct? If so this could be you losing the normal action safe which is 10% all around.

So can you give information, what settings did you use in DVDSP to m2v, 16:9? 4:3?

The question is not what timeline settings but what compressor settings give you the best.
I never like DVDSP go my encoding, I don’t like the workflow and you lose control plus you are stuck with PCM audio.

I almost always export to Compressor from my timeline, this will give you the best encodes, especially when coming from a HDV timeline.

Make a new preset w/ a CBR setting as high as you can (but never do over 7Mbps)
Set the Encoder tab Aspect to “16:9”, Field Dominance to “Top First”
Then under Quality Mode to “One Pass CBR” Average 6.5 (if that fits
Motion Estimation doesn’t matter on CBR
    SAVE

Then for ac3 settings for the audio default with a couple of changes is good.
Change 1 set Dialog Normalization to -31dB, this turns it off
Change 2 Under processing tab set compress preset to “None”

This will give you hands down the best encode. But do a short test since it ties up your FCP while doing the encode. A 5 min section of your timeline would give you a good feel for the end result.

If you tell me the total length of all you material on the dvd I can give you an exact bitrate for the video or you can find bitrate calculator online.

With Uncompressed I was only talking about SD.

I was told at NAB in the AJA booth that DVCProHD would also be a capture option for HD. But I was also told they would be shipping in July 🙂

Bob, do you think we will need a black burst with this? 🙂 Just joking I think I know your answer to that.

One thing the is sometimes overlooked for DV shooting, you get real 16:9 footage, no extra adapter or electronic cropping then upscaling, the chip is 16:9.

I shoot the DVX for years with the 16:9 adapter and there were some serious compromises that have gone away with the HVX.

Verified just means there is a checking process, “The files are good” like Toast does when you burn a disc. Just a safety feature, but a very important one.

Also you may want to look into the dual systems adapter
    https://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001

Will speed up the process of transferring or copying especially if you use FW800 drives.

Also a lot of people are using mirrored FW drive enclosures so there is a back up to the back up.

Also order I do this is – copy raw files to the hard drive – then do the Log and Transfer with these copied files. That way the camera/card/firestore is not tied up twice.

    Thought:

Camera to DVD Recored set for 16:9 then out to the VCR, with the DVD set to a 4:3 TV.

Personally I would just record to DVD and send a cheap DVD to my client.
