I have the same issue so you are not alone. I’m on Windows 10 and PP 2018.

I may do a reinstall as suggested above after I finish the current project.

I second rev.com. They do a great job. Used them for hundreds of programs. Same price with or without a transcript.

There is an online caption house that is great. They charge $1/min. with or without a transcript and they are fast

    Rev.com

I have hundreds of programs to them. I have full the pro version of captionmaker So I Can Do Anything In house But it is not cost Effective To Do So.

Would not work since timing changes slightly. Plus I don’t see the benefit of doing it this way. I would have 101 audio tracks vs 100 neat sequences

I was having this issue but had TeamViewer 12 installed. The invalid font was Adobe Devanagari family. Uninstalled Teamviewer 12, restarted and all is good now.

We have had to roll back to 2015.3, I was just wrong about the .5.

We are a broadcaster so in programming we are not doing any major editing but we do a lot of embedding of captions to MXF files. Anything past 2015.3 is messing up 708 captions. It is maddening. I talked to Adobe tech support and it was even more maddening. They are adding great features for fixing captions but it is breaking the most important thing,

For my own work, I edit in 2017.1 and embed captions in 2015.3 if it is HD.

That is not the case. When you bring in an mcc file it does have two layers 608 and 708. When you export with embedded or sidecar and choose 708 the exported file will have 708 and 608.

We do hundreds of files per week.

If you are using the news version of PP make sure you proof both. It is messing up a lot of 708 so we have rolled back to PP 2015.5.

Yes, this should tell you how to save them as a template.

We use Telestream’s Switch Plus. The free one does a great job but doesn’t support CC. If your footage type is supported I would give it a try.
